Hey all... we just got back from our quick trip to St. John. Mostly overcast the entire trip, but we still had a blast!

Here's some of the photos: http://www.pbase.com/mreilly01/st_john3 -- I will a bunch more up soon...

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt,
Wonderful pictures! Thank you for sharing them. My big question is where was the picture of the shark taken? Were you in the water at the time? And, do you happen to know what type it is?
Thanks again....
Corinna

WOW! I wish I had these as a screensaver!

I wish you had a caption identifying the locations. There's one with a condo looking place right on the beach. It's in the last two rows of pics. What is it?

You're a very talented photographer!

Hi Bluwater,
I think the "condo's" you are refering to are part of the Cinnamon Bay campgrounds. You can bring your own tent, rent a tent or rent the small studio's, some of which are almost on the beach front (those you see in the pics)
Hope this helps.

We saw the shark at Cinnamon Bay on the far west side of the beach (left side looking out to water). I was able to follow him around in the water for a good 10 minutes or so. Apparently this guy has been around for awhile, as people said he's grown in the last few months! Don't worry though, these juveniles swim out to sea when they get bigger 🙂

Regards,

Matt

Thanks! I still have more photos to post, just havent had the time to continue and go through them all. I took about 800 pictures in our 6 night trip. Of course only maybe 80-100 are worth posting -- one of the great advantages of digital 🙂

Once I'm done uploading the pics, I'll add in captions of the locations.

Those buildings are the campground units at Cinnamon beach. The one on the pic is the best, IMO, as it's RIGHT near the water. It's the #10 unit, FYI.

Regards,

Matt

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed 🙂

We're heading back in a few months, so I hope to get some SUN for our next trip! The overcast days were frustrating, but it did make for some somewhat interesting shots with the cloud formations.

Thanks again...

Matt

Hi Matt,
Wow, I was so hoping you weren't going to say Cinnamon Bay 🙁 I will be there in 3 weeks and kinda hope the little guy has headed out by then. It's one thing knowing and respecting that I'm a guest in their water but an entirely different thing to bump into one. I'll let you know if we "meet up".
In January I had booked a cabin in the #10 grouping. There was a delay in receiving my confirmation from Cinnamon Bay so when I called I was told that they had mistakenly given me a cabin in the #9 grouping which is ocean view not "front" and the #10's had since all been given to other parties. Not the end of the world but still a big disappointment.
I'll be on the lookout for the rest of your fantastic pic's!
Regards,
Corinna

Corinna,

We were in STJ last week and spent 3 days at Cinnamon Bay. Most of the time we snorkeled around the island but we did spend an hour at the west end. Never saw a shark nor did we hear of anyone else seeing one. So don't worry and just have fun. Make sure you do the island. You will not be disappointed.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the reassurance! No, I won't let it stop me from turning into a prune, which I plan on becoming from spending every available hour of daylight in the water. Even one night, as Maho Bay Camp offers a night time snorkel. Although, I will probably be a little more "twitchy" snorkeling at night - but it should be a fabulous experience! We are even bringing an inflatable 2-person kayak with us to get to all the nooks and crannies.
Thanks again!!
Corinna

Super pics. Can't wait until our trip to Cinnamon Bay. 26 days away. The beaches look empty. Is that normal this time of year? How about the heat. Does it feel super hot and sticky? Or is it tolerable due to breezes?

Oh!!! These pics have gotten me even more excited. only 15 more days. Ditto the shark remark above- I dont want to see how much more he has grown.

That shark is so used to swimming aside people - he has forgotten that he is a shark! He won't harm you. Don't feed him, though - he needs to be good at getting his own food from wherever sharks get food - which keeps people safe.
