had a blast last week as usual (week 25 Westin). I just wanted to recommend The Tap Room as another spot to have a great beer. Cheech is a really cool guy and it looks like they are thriving. I enjoyed the Summer Island Ale greatly.
We had dinner at Asolare and I noticed the bartender pouring gin all over the bar. Since this puzzled me I inquired and he told me it keeps the bugs away. "Better than Off"? I asked, "yep" was the answer. I never heard of that before so next year it will be a spray bottle full of cheap gin because the Off didn't do jack.....
Gin is an old standby - as long as you don't mind smelling like a drunken sot. Cheers!
and here's my Angie complaining and putting that deet all over herself. As soon as she gets back, I'll bathe her in gin.
I'm out of olives and don't feel like driving over to starfish at the moment. Is it okay without olives?
Stickin' of gin and driving a 4 wheeler around the island? Mmmmm. 🙂 I'm taking a spray bottle of gin to spray the kitchen counter top...will it kill those ants?
actually, no problem sticking of alcohol......just make sure you have your seat belt on.
Promo,
Got any cocktail onions? Those might work in place of the olives. Can we add a little vermouth to that gin bath...it might sweetin' things up a bit 🙂
wait a minute - "sticking" of gin?? or STINKING of gin?
Gin doesn't stink!
Ah, mountain girl....see your point. I think stinkin' would be better, but the jury is still out. Sticky is what everybody is down there this time of year.
P.S. Gin does indeed stink...it's Vodka that usually doesn't. 🙂
OH ok, and I guess gin could add to the stickiness, but not the stinkiness. haha!
gin just smells like pine needles
Gottcha! If gin smells like pine, then we all in pine ridden areas can drink and and not be caught! Just blame it on the trees.
hey! there ya go!
I happen to have 5 bottles of Tangaray (ck spelling!) and we are not gin drinkers, so I'm going to start smearing it all over me when we're sitting outside in the evenings and see if it works. Every thursday night we girls get together for a "porch party" where we sit and yak and sip on some libations, and I get misquito bitten. But, I am definitely lathering up in gin next week!
Aw, that sounds like fun! I wish there were some ladies here that would like to do porch parties! What's good is to mix the Tanguray (I don't know how to spell it either) with grapefruit juice and a peppermint, one of those white and red ones. Yum!
Gin also will transfer an image printed on ink jet from paper to paper, paper to cloth, and paper to clay. Betcha didn't know that either. 😉
Ooops, better not get off topic too much, or the forum police will come get me! eek! 😉
Gari Ann,
So the picture I have of my bu#* can get transferred to paper, cloth, and clay with gin???
I'm pretty certain that no one would want an image of 'that 'for Christmas!! However, I could paste it in my scrapbook, and call it 'art'.
By the way, does anyone know what the forum police earn annually?? Health insurance would be good.
My guess is that if the forum police stink of gin...they don't earn much. Here's a question for Islander...how many do you employ? Oh Oh...I went off the original forum for this question....I'm sorry :=)
It's spelled TANQUERAY, Cheers!
wow gin, grapefruit juice and a peppermint?? who da thunk?
we've decided to feature a different drink at each Thurs nite porch party - like the next one might be mint juleps. We'll have to try your recipe one night - but I think I want a back up (good ole Cruzan vanilla rum and diet coke!)
So, K Sq Domer - I wonder if the insects that it keeps away include flies??? Gin would come in handy at 4th of July cookouts! Might have to try that tomorrow - spray some gin on the tables. hmmm.
And, if the Mother-in-law gets out of hand, you could spray her, too!!!
ha!
more like brother-in-law!!
I would still like to know if gin keeps flies away. A guy who owns some property adjacent to ours put some of his horses there "temporarily" 🙁 anyhoo, it made the fly situation worse.
