My husband and I just returned last night from the best week ever in St. John! I feel strange today without some sort of rum concoction in my hand...

Just wanted to take a second to say that this board helped us plan our return trip and we really appreciate all of the posters' comments. Some quick notes:

Weather - Yes it rained. Oh boy did it rain! Nonstop on Monday & Tuesday. To those concerned about weather: We quickly learned that a rainy day in St. John is still a day in St. John! DON'T rely on the Weather Channel. Please don't! We got depressed on a daily basis w/ their forecasts and guess what, but soon realized that just about every day they were wrong.

Meat: To Freeze or Not to Freeze - At the last minute, my husband convinced me that it would be too much of a pain in the rear to bring frozen meat. We did all of our shopping at the Starfish. The meat there was fabulous, but EXPENSIVE. So just be prepared to shell out some extra $$$, but as far as quality, you shouldn't be disappointed. There we bought NY strip steaks, frozen chicken breasts, and some butcher-assembled steak kabobs. Everything was de-lish! We did bring some non-perishables, and are glad we did. My suggestions: cereal ($6 a box there!), chips, pasta, condiments, salad dressing (bagged salad was $6 btw!), and soda if you can swing it (a 12-pack of Coke at Simple Feast was $8).

"Racial Tensions" - Something discussed at great length here. If I hadn't read about it on the board, I would've had no idea there were any "problems" going on there. The locals we met while on our trip were fantastic, lovely people. Don't let the issue of "tensions" keep you away from this great place. It is as welcoming as ever.

All in all an AWESOME trip!!! Just like everyone else, can't wait to go back 🙂

Glad to hear you had a great time. You are right....a rainy day on St John beats a sunny day back in the states ANYTIME.

Glad you had a great time despite the rain. It does beat a rainy day or snowy day in the states.
