I just spent hours reading comments on this web site. They were all very helpful. But I am having regrets and need someone to please tell me some positives about the trip I just booked. I would be greatful for any recommendations. examples : musts see's and do's, nightlife, beaches for snokeling etc.
I am traveling with my single female friend. We are both in our early 30's. We will be staying for 6 nights and will be there for New Year's as well. I realize there will be many couples and families. But that is not the problem. It seems that people either loved or really hated staying at the Wyndham. The most disappointing thing I read so far is the beach is small and rocky. Please give me some advice to make the best of our vacation days in St. Thomas.
Thank you
The Wyndham Sugar Bay has a very close proximity to Red Hook so if you are not happy with the resort beach, hop on a ferry to St. John where you can easily find five world-renowned beaches. Since you will be there for New Years, head over to Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke (British Virgin Islands). I think the New York Times rated it something like number 3 or 4 for New Years Eve parties. You couldn't have picked a better time to visit. Lots of fun stuff going on!
The Wyndham is a lovely hotel. But the beach is not the best on the island. But that is okay because you can visit any beach you want. Be sure to go to Magen's Bay and don't miss Sapphire for snorkeling or Coki Point for snorkeling. Also Secret Harbor is beautiful. The pool at the Wyndham is great and you are close to Red Hook for day sails or the ferry to St. John. You will have a great time. Agave Terrace is a nice romantic restaurant.
I have booked my wedding at the wyndam next july. Could you write in this forum or email me personally when you get back. I too have had some concerns after reading some posts. Some of these suggestions make me feel alot better!
We have discovered that the secret to enjoying the islands is to discover the islands. I really don't care where we stay as each and every place has their good points as well as "less than good" points. I hesitate to say bad points because I haven't really found any bad points to any place we have stayed on St. Thomas. The beauty of the island is all around you, don't be fearful of getting out and finding it. And don't forget the people, from what we have found they have always been very friendly and helpful. It is very easy to adjust to "Island Time" but as I have found out after each trip, it is much harder to go back to "State side Time". Take in the best each place has to offer and have a great time.
