Planning a trip July 16-23, staying at Bluebeard Beach Club. Has anyone stayed there? When looking up the weather history for St. Thomas in July....it shows it rains 15 days on an average in July....does it just rain and then there is sun? Or is the whole day rainy? I like the sun....can you tell?

Tam, from one sun worshipper to another, do not worry at all about the rain in July. I stay at Bluebeard's Beach Club for two weeks in the beginning of August every year, and I've never had a rain issue. When it does rarely rain during the day, it's usually overnight or an occasional 15 minute shower, with everything completely dried up fifteen minutes after that. I've never had a rainy day that limited any activities at all. Of course weather is unpredictable, so I cannot PROMISE that there won't be rain.

As far as the Beach Club is concerned, I've been staying there for 9 years and cannot wait to get back in August. I suppose that's an indication that I love it. If you have any questions you can post them here or send me a private message.

have you been there since? Do you happen to know if all the rooms were remodeled?

Have you been to the Beach Club before? I'm asking because there have been renovations, but I'm not sure what your frame of reference is. In 1999-2000 the Beach Club was completely shut down while extensive remodeling of 5 of the 7 buildings was completed, adding terraces, extending the room sizes, adding kitchenettes, and lots of other complete changes. Last yar, the other two buildings, which had been overhauled prior to that have also been repainted, some remodeling and new soft furnishings. Ongoing upgrading of the rooms continues, in different buildings at different times.

I started going there in 1997 when there were tarps on several of the rooftops after hurricanes and no renovations had been done for many years. The change in that short time is amazing.

I was the sales manager there for a while. If you would like to e-mail me specific question, I will answer them in all candor.

Hey, Marty,

Since you have some candor to share, perhaps you could respond here. Since I'm an owner at the Beach Club, I'd love to read what you have to say, especially if you have some information contrary to the responses I'm giving to Tam. What info I have is based on two weeks per year as a vacationer, with vacationer expectations. I'd love to hear stuff I don't know.

By the way, I have friends going down there in a couple of weeks and were wondering how to get in touch with Jeff. Can you help with that? I'll be wanting to say hi to him in August, as well.

Jeff Moore, the batender? He doesn't work there anymore. I keep in touch with him, though. Would you like his cell #?

The Beach Club is looking better. All of the promises made by Fairfield are starting to show themselves. The pool looks great, what with the new paint job and all. Crab Village is still there, but with a sign now. The restaurant is now owned by Mim, of Mim's Bistro fame. I haven't eaten there, but Jeff said that the food was great. And, with Mim being involved, I can see why. There is a small store there finally. They are doing some work by the lower parking lot, by the tennis courts. I think they might be removing those. Beach still needs work, but it's getting better. They built a nice walking bridge. The units look great, inside and out. The laundry is open to guests now. Michael Wright, the harmonica player, is back on island, doesn't work there, but he played a few Monday Nite Parties and a beach party or two. What other type of info would you like?

Yes, Marty, that's who I mean, although I think of him as Jeff Slash...../bartender/waiter/photographer/minister..... some of the many roles in which I've seen him. I'm not sure he'd want his cell phone # given out, but if he's working somewhere perhaps those who want to say "hi" could go there. Several people have expressed disappointment that he is no longer at the Beach Club.

Good job recapping lots of visible changes at the Beach Club. Did you know about Fairfield's plans (merely sales presentation talk at this point) for luxury units where the old Green Cay room is? Also talk about highrise units (ugh!) perhaps where the tennis courts are. What a lovely contribution to the vista.

Slash salesperson/dog trainer/dog sitter...oh it justy goes on! Haha! He is currently getting ready to help open a bar Gov't Hill. First building you come to when you go up the hill. It was my office before the bar idea came up. It also used to be Marisol...before that it was Zorba's.

That talk has been going on since I was the Sales Manager there. I think they are finally getting closer to making it happen, but I don't have any of the 'inside' information. Nothing happens fast in a company like Fairfield! Haha!
