We are a family of 5 (kids are 15, 12 and 9) and are planning a trip for July 2010. Would it be better to stay in STJ and do day trips to the other islands or plan to stay a few days at each place? Also, which side of the island is best to stay with kids who always want to be busy? I have looked at villas through VRBO and the Westin but there is way too much to choose from. Any help?

Hello totfixer3,

You can definitely stay on St. John and plan day trips to other islands including St. Thomas and the BVI. Whether you'd want to plan to actually stay on a few different islands depends a lot on how long of a vacation you have - so whether it is worthwhile to spend time packing up, moving and unpacking. When in July are you planning to visit? With keeping the kids busy... a villa with a pool will help 😉 also the Westin might be a good idea - kids might find other young people their age to hang out with and may enjoy the activities there like the water trampoline at the beach etc.

You can stay on STJ, or STT but if you want to go to St. Croix it will be a problem as you will need to fly or take a boat.

STJ is 3 miles from STT by ferry. So you can stay on either island. It just depends on what you are looking for. STJ is a little more quiet but both have great beaches. You can rent villas on both islands or stay in a larger 2 bedroom condo.

Define what you want and perhaps we can help you.
