I have a question.

Can a U.S citizen fly into St. Thomas, take a ferry to Jost Van Dyke - stay a week - then take the ferry back to STT
& fly back to the states? I don't have my passport and hubby and I were hoping to book a trip in the next few weeks.

I hate to sound like I'm trying to skirt the law - I have my birth certificate, drivers license - just not my passport.

Any "kind" information would be appreciated

Thanks
Jeniffer

Sorry - Jost Van Dyke is in the BVI and the ferry stops at customs at either Tortola or JVD for you to check-in. You also have to check back into US Customs at STJ before heading to STT. You'll need a passport.

you can however get a passport rather quickly... like 2 weeks i think, but there is a "rush " fee

I would call the BVI Consulate and double-check, but according to this information on the state department's web site, you do not yet need a passport to travel by sea. I think I read that it starts 12/31/2007.

Given your time frame and the fact that you're planning on travellng by ferry/sea from USVI to BVI, you're "safe" with a raised seal birth certificate and photo ID until January 08 when a passport WILL be required for all travel between the USVI and the BVI. Some tour and ferry operators are asking for passports now in preparation for the change but until January 08 you're legally safe. Cheers, and have a great trip!

When we were there this past Feb. we flew into STT, took the ferry to JVD and upon arrival were asked for our passports. We had them, a woman behind us in line didn't and she was asked to step to the back of the line. We were waiting for our rental vehicle so we watched the happenings and the woman gave them a drivers license and birth certificate and was eventually let in. I think those prior to my posting are correct in that you can get in up thru the end of December 07 without a passport (via sea travel) but after that no more. Just our experience! If you have the time I'd save the hassels and get a passport! Safe travels! Jill
