Are there any Jelly-Fish problems in the USVI? They freak me out and I don't want to see any while snorkeling.

Also, how often do you see sharks when snorkeling around the islands? Is it a regular thing?

Thanks, Nick

There's a fair chance you'll see Moon jellyfish. They are about the size of a dinner plate, purplish, translucent & with very short tentacles. They are considered benign. I've only known one person and I've snorkeled with many people, who experienced slight itching (could've been something else) after snorkeling through a cloud of them. My experience has been you see them more in the summer months but it may have more to do with ocean currents.

Nurse sharks are occasionally seen. In 15yrs of diving & snorkeling trips in the USVI & BVI I've seen several nurse sharks one potential nasty shark, a Lemon shark at Great Dog BVI & one nasty jelly.

No worries!

JW

I have never encountered any other but a shark but a Nurse shark in many, many years of snorkeling and diving. FYI, a Nurse shark is very docile and almost boring at times to watch. Last summer there was a nice size one out at Waterlemon but again, hanging out on the bottom. No need to get anxious - enjoy. I have never found Jelly fish to be a problem.
