I booked my rental (we have used Avis for years) but it's the 1st time I'm getting a Jeep. Does anyone know if they all seat 5 passengers? Car says 4 door, 4 passenger, so I'm like "which one is it?" Pretty sure 4 door Jeeps all seat 5.

I've rented a 4 door Jeep Wrangler from Avis at STT this past June and previous Dec., but honestly cannot remember if there is a 3rd seatbelt in the back. Was just my wife and I this past June, and 4 of us the prior trip. I'm assuming it would be the same for all 4 door jeep wranglers.... you may have an easier chance finding out at home.... I have never been successful trying to reach the Avis counter by phone at the airport (and I doubt the 1-800# would know). Assuming you are in NJ in Point Pleasant or Brick based on your exitninetyone name..... My parents live right on the Metedeconk River...

How funny! Yes right on the border of Point 🙂
800# says they're not 5 passenger. Avis counter in the airport says they are. Taking my chances. Thank God for shoulder season!

Small world! Have a great trip. I have only rented from Avis....... 7 times in the past 7 years, both sedans, and more recently jeeps. Started staying on St Thomas (honeymooned there 30 years ago), but eventually gravitated to St John.

Could use a trip right about now..... tired of the frigid cold and snow up here in Long Valley. Probably won't get back until early Dec. (we always take advantage of shoulder season)..... only trip planned is my niece's destination wedding in Aruba in June. Won't come soon enough!

I have always used Dependable, which is right outside the airport. You pay a tax when you rent at the airport and it adds up. Plus, I have never had to wait in line at the rental car counters (which are always mobbed) at the airport. Just call Dependable when I get in and they come right over and pick up. Easy to deal with and nice people.

All 4 door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's seat 5 people. Three full size adults in the back seat will be a little tight though.

If they are open Jeep (like the WWII model) you'll be luck to haul two.

If they are the box versions, maybe five but more than that, bring salad dressing oil.

4WD cars are big deal for visitors but we have done 2WD and 4WD and happier with the latter - includes AC. The 2WD groan and complain but they can make it. I love to zoom around St.John a couple days in a Jeep 4WD and I am really tired.

Good luck.

I should have taken a better look this morning as stateside friends this time rented a brand new 4 door Wrangler from Hertz over the more compact SUV they usually get and I was taking a look at it. I didn't notice if there was a third seatbelt in the rear but I can't imagine three adults fitting comfortably back there. I asked him how the ride was since I'm not a fan of Jeeps, finding them not at all a comfortable ride, particularly in the passenger seat. He absolutely agreed and said it was nowhere near as smooth a ride over their usual transportation and, "she (his wife) gets bounced around a lot!", but when they stay here they don't go driving around all over the place so they're OK with it.
