I will be 23 years old when I go to St. Thomas/St. John for my honeymoon. Does anyone know of a good place to rent a jeep that allows under 25 drivers? The last time we went to St. Thomas, we had to pay an outrageous daily fee because we were under 25.
I am willing to go with a local agency if it has a good reputation.
It's a shame that most agencies discriminate against responsible adults who already graduated from college and have a professional career.
I don't think they are discriminating due to your actual age...just that, being under 25, you haven't had as much experience with alcohol as someone older. Someone older may have a better grasp on things and know when to call a cab, while someone that's only been drinking legally for a year or two is much more liable to get behind the wheel themselves. That's how it was explained to me, anyway. Take it for what it's worth.
You could also check into the scooters for rent..they may not have the same requirements. Send an e-mail to Kelly at [email protected] and ask him if he rents to under-25ers. He owns a scooter rental biz on STT and may be able to hook you up. He's on this board every now and then...You could get a cab to your hotel from the airport with your luggage, then rent a scooter or two from Kelly and still get around whenever and wherever you want, with no parking restrictions! Let us know how it goes...
I believe, Amalie Car Rental and Budget allow under 25! Budget may have the extra fee, not sure about Amalie.
Hope this helps.
Also, I believe that the insurance carriers increase their rates to the rental agencies if they rent to people under 25. If they don't rent to under 25 year olds, they probably just don't want the extra expense.
