Hi, we live here on STT and have friends who will be vacationing in Jamaica that want to come and visit. Are there any boats / planes anyone knows of that are reasonably priced? It's two adults and one small child (15 months). Many thanks!!!!!!
Jamaica isn't that close. Have they checked Air Jamaica?
Hi thanks for the tip. I just checked and they don't have any flights to STT or even PR.
As anyone who has checked will find out. You can't there from here....
American Airlines will take you from Montego Bay to St Thomas for about five hundred bucks. Great profit per mile...
Hopefully there is some regional carrier that can do better.
Air Jamaica, American, Delta and all the other soon to be bankrupt carriers apparently know nothing about serving the needs of the flying public.
There's always private charter:
Island Birds, Inc. – 284-495-2002 : Offers choice of 2 Piper Aztecs and a Piper Navajo. The Aztec carries 5 passengers. The Navajo carries 7 passengers.
I know you can get the 5 seater from San Juan to STT for $760 total. Maybe they would go to and from Montego Bay.
I would think they would have to fly to Puerto Rico, then here. Boats? I don't think that even the cruise ships hit both ports, as Jamaica is in the Western Caribbean route and St Thomas the Eastern...
P.S. The trip isn't going to be easy and it isn't going to be reasonable!
I've traveled from Jamaica to the USVI. If they are vacationing, I would assume they would be closer to the Montego Bay airport than the one in Kingston. Unfortunately, the way to get from Montego Bay, Jamaica to St. Thomas would be through Miami. I know it's ridiculous to fly north to Miami and then southeast to St. Thomas, but there is no other way. There are no direct flights from Jamaica to Puerto Rico.
As for the airport in Kingston, you could get to St. Thomas by either going through Miami or overnighting in St. Maarten or Antigua, but as you mentioned, your friends are vacationing, so they would likely be closer to the Montego Bay airport. Also, with hotel costs, it would cost more than connecting in Miami.
Jamaica and the USVI is like 700 miles apart, and I doubt a small charter plane would make the trip without multiple stops.
Hope this helps.
I'll bet DL is correct. It is more difficult to get around the Caribbean than one would think!
Spirit Air does the flights, but as was stated earlier, you will have to fly back stateside then down here. I have a friend living in Jamaica - his wife is a St Thomian, too....it SHOULD be easier to get around, but it's not. Sorry I wasn't any help.
Wow...how ridiculous....flying to the states and back to the Caribbean!
You cannot fly from Jamaica to St. Thomas through Spirit. They do not sell intra-Caribbean flights, as the Montego Bay-Ft Lauderdale flight does not match up with the Ft Lauderdale-St Thomas flight (you would have to overnight in Ft Lauderdale if you took Spirit). The airline to take would be American from Montego Bay to Miami and Miami to St. Thomas. It is much more expensive if you took Air Jamaica from Montego Bay to Miami and then switch to American. It is always cheaper to stick with the same airline the whole route. Check out the American Airlines website for fares.
