There is a group of us traveling to St. Thomas on the lovely Mariner of the Seas on the 28th of April. We have all decided that we would like to visit St. John and hit maybe a couple beaches. Also I think I read that it is Carnival time there? Anyway...would you suggest we do a self guided tour or are there local guides that would want to spend a little time with us...You may e-mail me privatly if you wish. Thank you....

Hello Kruz,

I think St. John is fairly easy to explore on your own, rent a car or two (depending on how many people in your group) and drive around the island, beach hop, take lots of pictures, have a great time...

If you want an island tour yes there are local taxi drivers at the Cruz Bay dock that would be more then happy to give you a 2 hour tour of the island and then drop you off at a beach.

Have a great time.

The safari bus drivers will be there at the dock when you come of the ferry . All you have to do is approach one and tell him want you want and he will take it from there. They know what they are doing and are used to this all the time. A safari bus is ideal as it can accomodate a larger groups. Price will depend on the number of people. Best of luck!

Hello,

Patrick pretty much answered your question, but to add to it - basically you don't need to make a reservation. When you get off the cruise ship you approach the dispatcher or taxi drivers directly and say you need a taxi to Red Hook for X amount of people. Safari buses can fit maybe 30 people - something like that. Then take the ferry over from Red Hook. At Cruz Bay again there will be taxi drivers there and they often will offer a tour to all those that they know aren't residents of St. John as soon as you get off the ferry dock. So just approach them and say you need a tour for X amount of people and at the end of the tour want to go to this beach or wherever it is you want the tour to end at. If you go to Trunk Bay or Cinnamon Bay or Caneel Bay or the Westin its easy to get a taxi back. If you choose one of the other beaches you will have to take you chances in flagging one from the road but the better bet is to make an arrangment to have the taxi driver return for you where he dropped you at a set time.

Hope that helps.

Kruz,

The 28th is the Food and Arts Fair - definately go check that out, great display of local foods and crafts - really tasty food and deserts!

Food! That sounds great!! Really...where do we go for the food and crafts? It's sounds
like a must do! I am so excited we will be there at this time!
I met up with a bunch of nuts that are all gonna be cruising together and for some reason the day at St. Thomas became my "job!"...
thanks again and let me know the location of everything!

Kruz,

Its in the Emanicipation Park in Charlotte Amalie, begins at 8am but last till early afternoon usually. A good time to go is mid-morning when everything is busy and booths have a large selection...

If St. John is still in the plan - figure out a good way to get them both in. Maybe go to the Food Fair early - 9am and spend an hour or an hour and half and then head to the Charlotte Amalie ferry to St. John.
