I've been curious how people learn about Trunk Bay. So many posters--either folks arriving on a cruise or staying on STT--want info on getting to Trunk. They all know about Trunk. How do they all learn about it? How do they learn about Trunk but not about any other beaches? (Oh, well there is that segment that has heard about Salomon).
Nick,
My guess is that most people's first impression of any of the islands is made from the decks of a cruise ship and the land tours offered by the cruise ships (e.g. TUESDAY MAY 17: ST. THOMAS, USVI. SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES: SHOPPING, SHOPPING, SHOPPING, OR VISIT TRUNK BAY ON BEAUTIFUL ST. JOHN!). Then these people go home, tell all their friends about the beautiful beach they went to, show them the pictures and post cards, then the friends take a cruise, go to "the beach on St. John", and so it goes.
Even the guide books tend to mention Trunk as the "must see" beach, so unless you're a real researcher and watch forums such as this one for a fairly long time, well, you just know about Trunk.
Good for 'em I say, keeps the other beaches that much less crowded!
