Can you easily walk from the cruise ship pier to town or should we hail a cab. We are leisurely walkers so I was wondering if it would be a long walk.

Thanks in advance.

Red Sox all the way this year!

Hi! Having been to the island many times by cruise ship, I would advise taking one of the open air taxis that will be waiting outside of the ship. They will drop you off downtown for $3 per person. It is somewhat of a walk into town...especially if it's hot out! To get a great view of your ship and the harbor take a trip up to Paradise Point where you will get excellent views on a clear day. It's beautiful in the morning. You can walk right across the street from where the ship docks to get the tram which takes you to the top. Have a great time! You'll love it!

Actually, it is 1 mile from Havensight to town, but if it is hot, it seems like 5!!

If you enjoy walking, grab a bottle of water and go for it. Wear sunblock and a hat - your scalp will get burnt from the sun beeming down on you and the side of your body (arm, leg) that faces the water will get burnt because of the sun reflecting on the water, your shoulders if exposed will be burnt to, and potentially the front of your legs. I have seen lots of tourist with strange sun burns from walking in town without sunscreen - LOL. Its also a hot walk, its a nice walk if its early in the am or later afternoon - mid day or early 10am ish is hot hot hot.

Cabs are $3 - ride into town. If you feel up to it after seeing the distance by taxi then walk back.

Also - as for walking around town - yes easy walking through town, shops and historic buildings - all flat area. Some of the historic sites are up steps or hills.
