Hi all.
I'm planning my first trip to St. John for a family celebration and would love your advice. My question:

Should I be concerned about traveling in mid-August because of weather?

We got a great deal on a villa and airfare isn't too bad. We are on a budget and June/July dates will cost us at least $1100 more in airfare, car and villa rentals, but if we'll experience excessive rain and humidity mid-August versus earlier in the summer, I'll spend the extra money. Your input is greatly appreciated!

August will likely be hot, sticky, humid....generally the wind lays down in August/September months. Tropical storm/hurricane season starts cranking in August but we're all hoping for a quiet 2008 storm season. Check out https://www.vinow.com/usvi/weather.php to see the average rainfall. Does your villa have airconditioning? Is it located/situated to ideally catch what breezes there are? Take bug repellent.

All that said....great deal on a villa, airfare not too bad, you're having a family celebration, you'll be on St. John(!).....I dunno......August or not, slap a ticket in my hand and I'm there!

The villa is on a hill, about 1500 feet from the water, and it is airconditioned.

Went on and viewed threads about no-seeums and bug repellant...thanks for pointing that out...we'll be prepared.

Being just a few miles from Boston and used to ocean breezes and low humidity (dew points are rarely about 66 ot 67 here), I'm going to give a bit of thought to the stickiness factor. With my allergies and asthma I might be better off going earlier in the year.

Thanks for your time and response!

It is so weird how that works - allergies just disappear

August and bad weather is a consideration
But for a family get together their will lots of choices to stay and airfare at its lowest
I lived in Mobile, AL for a few years and STJ in August is better than Mobile in August

June and July you can get some good winds
August and September most of the winds end meaning something bad.

Definitely consider trip insurance on villa(s) and airfare

We have been there in June, July and August for the past several years and haven't had bad weather yet. A little rain a little wind a little humid but always a breeze. The last time time we were there in August we left NH and it was 95 degrees with 92% humidity and dead calm. We got to St Thomas (my head cleared as soon as I stepped off the plane as usual) and it was 94 degrees with 72% humidity with a wonderful breeze. Now I'm not saying that it is always that nice but we've learned to take the good with the bad and there isn't much that is bad when you're in the USVI. Have a great trip and enjoy Paradise (we'll be there for June, July & August this year) YEA!!!

One additional thing to consider is Carnival on STJ. Special events run on the weekends in June up to the July 4 parade.

is airfare really that expensive, i always got cheap flights using expedia, yes it took longer but a day spent flying is still a day spent flying,i generally had a 6am flight then a plane switch in chicago and then another in puerto rico. and generally got here by 5 or 6
