Yes, but please don't take glass containers/bottles onto the beaches. That's actually prohibited on St John's beaches under the NPS and prohibited on Magens and Smith Bay Park/Lindqvist beaches on St Thomas.

Welcome back to the message board. It's been a few years. Yes drinking alcohol on beaches is allowed... and encouraged at beaches with on-site bars and restaurants.The beaches with hotels on site typically have beach side bars and/or restaurants. And some of the park beaches do too, for example Magens Bay on St. Thomas has a bar/restaurant and wait staff that walk up and down the shore taking orders and delivering drinks. On St. John, Trunk Bay and Cinnamon have some drinks and food available. You can check out the beach guide on this site for a run down on amenities at the beaches you plan to visit.

If you are taking your own cooler - canned beer is the way to go like STT Resident noted. Get a few can koozies to keep things cold. If you planned to do mixed drinks you can keep the rum or whatever in the cooler with the mixers; use an insulated cup with a lid for the mixed drink - they work great at keeping it cold and avoiding spillage while wading in the water. Most resorts have ice makers so you can check to see if that is available where you are staying. If not, convenience stores generally have bags of ice for sale for a few dollars.
