Just wondering, I hear alot of you talking about renting a 4 wheel drive in St Thomas, I'm going to be there in may and need to rent a car for the week. Do you need a 4 wheel drive to get to certain areas? Or can you get around fine with a car? I appreciate your input.
Thanks
David

Hello David,

4wd isn't absolutely necessary on St. Thomas.

Most taxis are not 4WD. Same with the majority of the cars on island...about 90% are not. My wife owns a '02 Jeep Wrangler Sport and she has not even learned how to use the 4WD...and she's had it for over a year!

On STT 4WD is not necessary. On STJ it is much better to have a 4WD but not absolutely necessary for 90% of the island. Some villas on STJ have steep rocky driveways that may require a 4WD. In either case, it is important to have good tires.

Tmax is right on.
Also could be handy to have 4WD in STJ on those swtichbacks after it rains, esp like now after it hasnt rained in a a while, the built up oil and rubber will surface and could make it quite slick til it washes away.
