My friend and I are staying with a local so, lodging is taken care of. However. How much money do you think we will need? I'm sure the person we are staying with will take us a few places but Id like to do at least one thing such as rent a small boat. Is 1200 enough for my friend and me? We will be there 7 days but 2 of them are all travel days...I want to relax a lot I don't shop really but I do like to eat food and drink...not fancy...I actually have no desire for any upscale dining, I wanna feel like I'm away from it all I can do fine dining downtown anytime. Any cheap open beachfront bars/restaurants that are just cool place for a burger n a beer and watching the ocean? I wanna make friends party responsibly and get a nice tan. I'll only be going to st John from st Thomas and maybe water island but not bvi or stx. This is my first time to the Caribbean at all, have been to Honolulu I understand the pacific and Caribbean are different. Usvi seems to appeal to me more but I will see soon! My countdown clock says 50 days 20 hours and 11 minutes! It's been five years since my last vacation to Hawaii so excited its hard to sleep already. Anyone else going around then? Use your math skills hehe 🙂
Rent a small boat? You can rent a dinghy on St John (don't know what happened to the dinghy rental place on STT) for less than $1200. There are plenty of captained boats you can book that take you to the best spots for about $200 pp (including drinks and BVI fees).
Don't know where you're staying, but you can eat well during many of the happy hours. Fat Boys in Red Hook has 1/2 price burgers (no sides). Big Kahuna Rum Shack in town as HUGE $3 tacos (minimum order of 2). Dog House Pub in Havensight has affordable food, but it's mostly tacos, enchiladas and burgers.
Depending on where you're sleeping, you may need a vehicle so you can explore the many beaches at your leisure. You won't be doing the VI justice if you don't visit at least one different beach a day.
I don't think the $1200 was for the boat rental but $600 each person for spending money for the week during their vacation (for food, drinks, taxi's, shopping, groceries, drinks etc - at least that is what I thought) A dinghy rental on St John will cost between $75 and $195 plus $30 for fuel depending on the company and if it is a half day or full day.

$600 is kinda slim if you plan on eating out, taxi-ing/renting a car, ferry-ing.
No rental car. And not much eating out. I think we will only do dinner out. And yes $1200 for the whole week not one boat trip haha. That's for my friend and myself. I think it should be plenty. The only ferry well do is the st John one from red hook I see it's cheaper quicker and closer to my cousins house on the island. I want to be able to spend whatever I want though. I should have saved all year....oh well.
Just budget well and you should be safe. As mentioned, indulge in happy hours, otherwise buy your own booze if you want to drink.
If you have transportation and are not taking taxis then $100 per day is fine. Remember once you arrive on st john, the best beaches are a taxi ride north, about $20 round trip. The beach bar in cruz bay is fun. some of the bars in Redhook offer happy hour specials. Red hook on the weekend has a night time party vibe. Most of the on-the sand resturants and bars are associsted with hotels and can be on the pricer side and cater to hotel and condo guests. Check out "st thomas this week" for specals. Consider packing a soft sided cooler with froozen meats and specialty items. Ask you host what he/she wants? My motto for saving $$$ is "eat in and pack a lunch" .
lol totally. I would like to eat out sometimes but not a whole lot. maybe we will grill out the whole time! im 27 and my friend is female in upper 30s...we both like to have a good time and stuff so red hook sounds kinda cool. any cool dance places or? id like to make some friends while im there! =) it seems like such a "community" place (usvi) easy to meet ppl.
