My husband & I would love to share St John with our grown children. We only stopped there as a part of a cruise package and instantly loved it. You all seem very versed in the island knowledge. Is it possible to spend a week there for under $5000? I have no idea and would be taken advantage of if I just guessed at a place to stay. We would have to fly there from Pittsburgh also. What is the best way to go about it? Travel agent? Internet? Please also give me some suggestions on when the "peak season" is if there is such a thing there. Thanking you in advance!

Hello Dale,

Description I found in a booklet:

"One bedroom house, private bath, hot water, A/C, deck with good view, equipped kitchen, four minutes from Cruz Bay". I think there are 3 cottages. Couldn't find a web site. Hopefully Poky will give us a trip report when they get back 🙂

There are a few less expensive places to stay on St. John.

Thanks Islander,

We did pretty good as far as booking a pretty inexpensive house for our trip in April. The Tree House on Mammy peak is under $1000 a week. Great view, 3 bedrooms, and even a hot tub on the deck. I stayed there about 5 years ago and although not luxurious it was pretty nice. The hot tub is new!

Come on April!

Hello Dale,

For sure there are a few less expensive houses. The places I previously named are all inns/guesthouses.

The Tree House your are refering to, is it this one?

They do look pretty cozy and tropical. 🙂

We are leaving May 14th. It sounds like you will be there too. I am just excited as you are. Maybe we could get together for drinks?

I envy you! We shared our favorite place with our son, daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren last June and its the best vacation any of us ever had. We're still sharing memories and
the little guys talk about it all the time. We spent more money
than you're planning but needed a house that was safe and suitable
for young children. Once we settled into the house, we never went out for dinner. The view, the breeze and relaxing time with a "painkiller", a marguerita or a Red Stripe were just too good to leave. I highly recommend a house with a pool. It's very refreshing after a day at the beach. No need to do a lot of cooking. You can buy great side dishes at Starfish Market or the gourmet shop near the Westin, and throw some meat or seafood on the grill. Good local food is available at the Cruz Bay fruit stand, barbecue stand(fabulous chicken and ribs with cole slaw) and some of the stands that sell homemade local dishes. Groceries
are expensive because everything has to be shipped in.
We're going back to St. John next week-just can't get enough of
the place.
