Can someone please tell me if there is Internet access on JVD?
Me and my husband will be staying at white bay for a week next month. I want to get away from it all but still keep in touch with family & work responsibilities.

Thanks!!!

Jen

Jen,

On our last trip there (Feb 2011) Internet access was pretty limited. You could walk down to Soggy Dollar and they have wi-fi but it's very spotty. I don't believe White Bay villas and cabins are wi-fi but you could e-mail Thad and ask him. Unless you really really need to get on the computer I'd leave it at home!

I'm sure it won't be a problem and that someone will be able to give you the definitive answer but, I have to ask, isn't this an oxymoron? "Vacation - taking a break from your regular work or routine to relax." For one little week you can't simply dig your toes in the sand and forget about the rest of the world? 😀

Jen,

One thing I should mention which you may or may not have thought about. When you are on the BVI's (Jost) your US cell phone will be roaming. Whether you actually use it or not you may incur roaming fees and they aren't cheap. We learned the hard way about 6 years ago when we used the phone only once or twice to check on the kids but several calls came in and we didn't answer (voice mail). We came home to a HUGE bill, I believe it was over $400.00. check w/ your carrier and make sure you put a temporary roaming on for the BVI's. We have Verizon and were able to put a temporary roaming package for the Caribbean, it was something like $45.00 for the month and we cancelled the minute we got back and had no additional charges. But beware, even if you don't answer the call or perhaps you do there could be huge fees. Just something to think about.

STT just knowing it is there if we need it is enough. We have our own business and don't have anyone to leave in care of things. Plus we have the kid, parents and grandchild that we would like to check on occasionally.

Maybe with limited Internet access hubby will be "forced" to relax.
