*We own a Condo on St. Croix and will be going there for a month this fall. We would love to have internet access but don't find much info on who to contact. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Barb

I have had good luck with SurfVI which is a local ISP. Your speed may very, but I got a rock solid 52K on my dial up connection. Cost $13.95 per month sign up on line.

If you have a GSM cell phone from Cingular/AT&T you can use your phone as a wireless modem. Worked for me. I have an unlimited data plan, nationwide service.

First, check to see if your ISP has a local access #. You might be surprised. I have EarthLink, but their local access# is not published due to limited lines. You can always get it from a fellow EarthLinker! 😉

AOL also has local access here. Also, check out www.pennswoods.net in a pinch.

VIAccess is the granddaddy of all the local ISPs, been around since almost the beginning.

We also have a condo on St. Croix and recently got DSL service from Innovative. I ordered it in June, but Innovative was out of modems so I picked up one in late July. The availability of the modems is an issue, Innovative thought that they were out of them the second time I went by but fortunately they had just received some that day. I was told that no filters were needed for the other phone lines. In reality, filters are needed for any line that is not connected to the DSL modem, but Innovative does not supply any. I have several that I have from Verizon so I'll try those next trip before I buy some from Radio Shack in Sunny Isles shopping center.

So far the DSL service has been fair. It was down for two days last week and one day this week. When it is running it is fine. It is not cheap - $59.95 per month plus $99 for the modem plus $80 "installation" charge. A CD comes with the modem, but the instructions are out of date. If you install the modem yourself (i.e. plug it into a socket, plug the telephone line into the wall, and connect your computer to the modem) call Innovative at 340-714-3700 for instructions to set the Control Panel on your computer which are very simple.
