Hi all,
I am planning a trip to St John and am considering a villa through Carefree Getaways called L'ESPRIT DE LA VIE.
I have read 2 posts here so far about Carefree and both were positive so that is encouraging!

I would like to ask for additional comments from people who have utilized their rentals (opinion of their service, are the villas as nice as they seem on the website, any gotchas to be aware of, etc.). Also if anyone has stayed at this specific villa I would love to hear about your stay.

Thanks!

Carefree has gotten mixed reviews, but most were positive. Try using the "search" function on this site - Forum Tools. Enter Carefree Getaways and then search ALL DATES using EXACT PHRASE. You'll get plenty of returns with posts about CG.

I searched on the villa and found nothing. But, it seems to be new.

We stayed in this villa back in December. It is fantastic. The only negative I could pass on is that the hot tub is not really hot. The heater apparently doesn't work and it never gets hot. Other than that the villa was great. The bedrooms were all equal as well. It had everything we needed including a well stocked pantry for basics. Let me know if you have specific questions. Carefree was great to work with.

Bluwater - Thank you for the suggestion. I will try the Search function again (I tried it before but I probably didn't do it right! ) 🙂

FlaFamily - Thanks for this info! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind my asking -
1. how was the drive to/from the villa to town or beaches?
2. Is the pool a good size? It looks a little small in the pictures.
3. Was there any construction noise or other noise disturbances while you were there?

Thank you in advance! I'm always a little leery of renting from someone that I've never dealt with before and it is a great help to hear others experiences.

🙂

Don't know if mine was one of the posts you read, but we will be renting through Carefree for the fourth time this summer and have always had wonderful experiences. Please let me know if there's any more I can tell you.

Hi White-sand-girl,

The drive to town was perhaps 8 minutes. The first few times it seemed like longer but you get used to it and then it seems not far at all. To get to N Shore beaches we always went thru Cruz Bay and then around. You can go up Gift Hill to Centerline and access the Coral Bay end as well. We didn't do this as most of the beaches we went to were closer to Cruz Bay. We did do the Gift Hill trip once when we headed to Coral Bay for our WhiteWing trip with Clark. The road is pretty bad in places.

The pool is actually a good size. If you have 4 or 5 super active teenages it might get small but for normal adults and kids it is fine. I would say it is 8-10 feet across and then pretty long around the semi-circle. We actually didn't use it excpet the one time my husband fell in by accident. It was fairly cold in December for us spoiled Fla people who like our pool water at bath temp!

I heard no construction noise at all in the area. You would hear an occasional car or truck on the road below the house but it was not bothersome in any way to us. The driveway is a bit tricky. You turn up into Point Rendevouz and it is the first on the left. It curves sharply up to the pad with not much room to turn around as the owners jeep is parked there also. We just pulled in, parked and the backed down. The backing down is fine but you end up backing right onto the road without a real view of oncoming cars. We didn't have a problem but just be aware of it and careful.

The pics on the Carefree web are very accurate. The house is really lovely. We will stay there again. Paco met us at the dock and took us to pick up our car and to the villa. He asked if we needed to stop at Starfish which we didn't as we had the villa prestocked. He was really nice as were all the carefree people. There is also a great notebook in the house with tons of info and menus from the various restaurants in town. This was really convenient.

FlaFamily - Thank you very much! I am very excited to hear that the villa is as nice as it seems in the pics and the people from Carefree are good to work with also. It sounds like the pool will be just fine since there are only adults going on our trip. I just wanted to make sure that 3 or 4 could be lounging in the pool at the same time. 🙂
That's what we plan to do most of the day - either in the pool or at the beach!
I don't know if the hot tub will be an issue or not. It's not a problem with me because I don't really care for hot tubs much but there are others in our group who might so it's good to have that bit of information.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my query!
🙂 🙂
