I'm considering heading to St John at the end of April for a long weekend via the Ferry from St. Thomas....flying in from the States. I've seen two places that are inexpensive and was hoping I could get some feedback as to which of the two are better.....and what I should look out for regarding either of them.

Sweet Plantains
St John Hostel

Any comments and suggestions are greatly welcomed. Thanks, Michael

Until today, I never heard of St. John Hostel, so I can tell you nothing about it. Sweet Plantains is situated in Coral Bay. There are things to do close by. Howver both places are out of the way of main activites that take place in Cruz Bay and easy access to beaches. Unless you plan to rent a car, they may be too far out. In Cruz Bay there are alternaives like The Inn at Tamarind Court, St. John Inn, Samnuel's Cottages, and Garden By the Sea B & B. There are also two campsites. Maho and Cinnamon Bay.

I agree with Ronnie, unless you rent a car (hard to do for a weekend only) or are willing to do a lot of walking, you will be fairly isolated. Really depends on what you want to try and do over a long weekend.

Hello,

Not familiar with St. John hostel... do you have a web site for them?

Here are some links for the other suggestions you could look at along with the two you are considering:

http://www.hillcreststjohn.com

http://www.serendipstjohn.com

http://www.tamarindcourt.com

http://www.coconutcoast.com

http://www.stjohninn.com

http://www.sweetplantains-stjohn.com

http://www.samuelcottages.com/index

Will you be renting a car on St. Thomas? If yes you might see if you can take it over to St. John on the car barge (some car agencies are ok with that, some are not)? If not you might rent one on St. John. With a car you can make the most of your weekend there.

Also try www.starvillas.com. If you call, Marlene should answer the phone. If you would, tell her I say "hello".
