The last two nights of my trip will be just my brother and I and as we'll have lived it up (and dished out) on Sapphire or Secret Harbour with our group, I was looking for an inexpensive but really nice accomodation for those two nights. We'll be golfing at Mahogany Run (another reason I need to save dough). So far, I have a condo on Cabrita Point for $155/nite plus $75 cleaning fee for booking just two nites. Also I'm looking at Absolute Paradise Villas which I already got info on, but at 148.50/nite still worth considering.

Did you look at something like the Crystal Palace?

Here is the url: http://crystalpalaceusvi.com/

The building was built by Ronnie's grandfather, the first building to have glass windows in town (hence "Crystal Palace") and sits up above town, just below the governor's mansion. Great view, great host, historic in-town location...

And full disclosure, I consider Ronnie in my column of friends, but I certainly don't get kick-backs! If I made and mistakes in the history above, I am sure to hear about it!

I have visited the Crystal palace on a couple of occasions...not as an overnight guest, but to visit Ronnie and check out his Palace.

It really is a true historic Caribbean mansion, furnished and appointed like a fine home, not a hotel. One of the guests, who was in the parlor when I arrived, showed me her accomodations because she was so impressed with her bathroom - it was honestly the size of a normal bedroom (the bathroom was) HUGE!. The rooms are very large, which is unusual for an older home (at least those in the states).

I didn't see all of the bedrooms, so I can't speak for all of them. The house is set up so that the living areas - living room, dining room, kitchen - are on the entry level and the guest rooms that I saw are downstairs.

I don't recall if there were any stairs going to an upper level. The only downside I could see would be that since the bedrooms are downstairs, there was less of a view from there. Perhaps there are bedrooms with a front-facing view, which would be optimal.

The view is best enjoyed, as I saw, from the living room area where there is a verandah that runs across the front and is open into the main living area of the home - so when you enter the main door at the opposite end of the home, you can see straight through, out, and to the harbor.

You get the added benefit of being a guest of someone who is famous in the VI, so you are instantly "connected".

The home sits on a hillside overlooking the harbor.

LOL, does Ronnie have a problem with it being called a verandah? Figures.:)

So what does he call it? I can't imagine...

Gallery?

I ended up booking at Point Pleasant and with the money I saved decided to keep the same accomodations right through to the 7th. However, Crystal Palace sounds to good to not at least investigate.
