Hello Everyone,

My freinds and I are in STX right now. I was going to post a report when I got back but a little each day might be easier.

Got in later than planned Sun. evening. We rented a car from Judy of St. Croix. Great people. It was dark when we got here and were kind a scared to drive in the dark on the left when we had no idea where to go. The people we rented the car from helped us get to our Condo which we are very grateful for as we would still be driving in circles. (My first right hand turn was a nightmare). I will post the phone number for this rental agency when I get back.
Monday sat at the beach, drove in circles, did some shopping went to the Brew Pub for steak and all the beer you can drink. The crab races were cancelled so will have to try another night.
Today we spent most of the day at Cane Bay. The Cane Bay Dive shop will pick you up if more than two peole are diving. It was a wonderful day. We dived, sat around, snorkeled and had some really good onion rings at the bar there. Tonight we are going to the buffet at Hotel on the Cay. I just read the post about eating in town but oh well. The food has been good everywhere we have gone so far but definitely not a "value" anywhere.
So far this seems like a good vacation spot.

For inexpensive food you can't beat Luncheria in Christiansted - dinner with a Dos Equis for under $10. Also try Kim's in Christiansted - local food and excellent. Bombay Club is slightly more, but their lower end items, like the fish and chips, are under $10 and are superb. I like fine dining, but I've had that item on many occasions and been very happy! Pleasant's in C'sted also has good food, plenty of it and reasonable prices.

For local cusine at reasonable prices try Nolans on the east side of town on the main road.

Doesn't look like much on the outside but the food is very good. Be sure to ask him to make one of his special puches for you.

Enjoy.

Jim

Anyone of the old timers know what ever became of Kim's fomer hubby? Melee was that he was in the fine white powder import/export business in the early '80s, and the fishing thing was a cover. I remember he got caught stealing some stuff from the old deli place by the Gallow's Bay turnoff road right after Hugo. Kim herself was always a very, very nice person. I can't remember the name of the old place. It was right on the corner of Company & King Streets I believe, across from the old Bilge and Redfield's realty (tests one's memory...huh?)

113EstJF -

Company and King Streets are parallel - do you mean King Cross Street? I'm in the states but I can ask some friends.

Janet -

Forgot to mention Nolan's - really great local food and a lot of it. I'm pretty sure he has stuff like barbecue chicken for those that shy away from conch in butter sauce 🙂

Actually, it was at the intersection of Queen Cross & Company Streets.

From being down there a month ago, I know Kim's is on King Street, North from the corner of Prince St and on the left. Staying at the Pink Fancy and walking up and down King St. all the time, I must have passed Kim's twenty times. Too bad I didn't stop in. I will next time though....
