i currently live on the mainland of the US but i'm thinking about transferring to the UVI's St. Thomas campus. Everyone keeps telling me that if i go i'll be the "mainland american everyone hates" i've never heard of there being any tension between virgin islanders and mainlanders but i wanted to know if i was wrong? is there any animosity between the two or are all truly welcome?!

lindsay,

You wouldn't be the only student from the states attending UVI. Local UVI students do not "hate" continental UVI students. There is some tension between the haves and the have-nots but no more so than stateside and less so on campus as all students are pretty much have nots.
