I think I have overload on reading these message boards. I need some help. Maybe somebody can set me straight.

1. We'll be getting in on May 31 in the afternoon and leaving on June 8th. I see alot of posts about people booking different excursions to the Baths, Jost, Indians even before they get to the Island. Should I be doing that now??? Or is there a good chance there will be space when we get there.

2. How do I get from the airport to Sapphire Beach in the afternoon hours. Is there a secret??

3. Where can we go to eat the first night without driving far, because I know we'll be tired. Someplace that's easy going, with a good view, good drinks and adequate food.

Please help me!! :o)

June is the start of the low season. I think you will be ok booking your excursion when you get there.

Based on question #3, looks like you have your priorities in order: ..... "Someplace that's easy going, with a good view, good drinks and adequate food. "

LOL!

Okay....calm down.

First, are you renting a car?

Second, have you prepard a plan of what you want to do during your week in STT. Suggestion: Make a day by day list and fill in each day. e.g. Monday - Sapphire Beach, Lunch at XXXX, Dinner at YYYY, Tuesday - Ferry to St John, Honeymoon Beach, Lunch at Caneel Bay Resort, Dinner in Cruz Bay, etc.

Third - fire back a PM with specifics...I'll see if I can fill in the blanks....a budget would help as well so I send you to the right places.

Yes, we are renting a jeep and we'll definety be using it because we like to drive around and see what's going on on both St. thomas and St. John.

Definetly want to rent one of those dinghies and take a day just going from one place to another.

I'm definetly a list person, but i've tried that before and usually it doesn't work out as planned.

I don't don't know what a PM is? Our budget is like this. We're not big fancy eaters or anything. We much prefer a lively place, nothing stuffy. One night we'll definetly go out to eat at a nice place because of our 30th Anniversary.

Definetly will go to the Baths, and just have no other idea what to do besides that.

Connie,

A PM is a Private Message. Just above the box where you type a reply to a post on this thread you'lll see a row of "Forum Tools" and one of those tools is "Private Messages." You can use this feature to contact Future Islander directly and exchange email.

hey connie relax... take your time driving across the island to sapphire it should take about 20 to 40 mins depending on traffic but dont worry it wont be like the parkways south on 4th of july. (i live in margate) booking will be easy that time of year and discounted because of the proximity to high season. sapphire is 1/2 mile up the road from red hook where you can find any number of restaurants, bars, shops, grocery, ferry dock... you cant get lost leaving saphire if you tried... just take a left(and stay left)
have fun
ps; the owner of "molly malones" a restaurant in red hook is a philly native.

There's a decent resturaunt right in the Sapphire Beach complex; the Blue Water Grille. Nothing spectacular, but decent food at average prices for STT. There's another up in the Sapphire Village condo area, Azure, but I haven't eaten there yet so I really don't have anything to say about it.

Okay…here it goes….

IMHO….and it’s adjustable….mix and match…if it rains adjust the schedule for shopping instead of the beach.

Since we’re about the age (we’re celebrating our 30th in June) I think you’ll like what I suggest. This is pretty much what we do when on-island…..

Wednesday – May 31
Drive to Sapphire – Get Maps at the rental car agency….also pick up all the free guide books/advertisement brochures at the airport. It’s easy to get from the airport to Sapphire.
After checking-in, go to Marina Market (Red Hook – just up the road from Sapphire) for your breakfast items, snacks, soda & rum/liquor.

Suggest dinner either in Red Hook or try Iggies at Bolongo Bay (Wednesday is Carnival Night – but call ahead to be sure it’s going on during low season)’

Thursday - June 1
Coki Beach & Coral World – Coki Beach is one of our favorites – there are facilities on the beach such as food & drink. Good snorkel area. Coral World offers a good view of the sea life around the VI’s. Dinner in Red Hook (See listing of restaurants below).

Friday – June 2
Take the ferry to Jost Van Dyke (from Red Hook) It’s about $45./person round trip. (I believe the Jost ferry runs on Friday, Saturday & Sunday). Spend the day at Jost…..taxi to the Soggy Dollar & Gertrudes (beautiful beach area)….also don’t miss Foxy’s on your way back…maybe, if he’s there, Foxy will sing a song for you. Dinner at Red Hook if you’re still up to it.

Saturday – June 3
Cruise via New Horizons II (located at Sapphire Marina) to Virgin Gorda (The Baths, etc.) ……this is a whole day trip…you will need to reserve and be sure they are doing the trip on this day. Dinner – call for pizza….or pick up Chinese at the Wok & Roll (Red Hook).

Sunday – June 4
Beach Party at Sapphire – again it is low season – check at the hotel to be sure they are still running it – they also offer a bar-be-que…it’s okay, but not great . Dinner – see list below.

Monday – June 5
Car Ferry to St John
Choices: Honeymoon Beach adjacent to the Caneel Bay Resort, Cinnamon Bay, Trunk Bay, etc. Our favorite is Honeymoon Beach and the lunch buffet at Caneel Bay (it’s like being on a cruise ship - call ahead though, since it’s low season). Also, be sure that you make it back to Cruz Bay for the last car ferry or your car will be spending the night on St. John.

Tuesday – June 6
A day of shopping & exploring in Charlotte Amalie. Havensight & downtown are good places for “tourist” shopping. Check the ship schedule to assure that no more than 3 ships are in, since it tends to get crowded. Dinner at Mafolie’s, reservations required (watch the cruise ships depart).

Wednesday – June 7
Megan’s Bay (nice beach) & Mountain Top (great views).
Sunset sail aboard the Fury from the Marriott dock.
Dinner, if you want on the way back at Iggies – again Wednesday is Carnival night.

Thursday – June 8
Have I made an Islander out of you, yet?
If time permits…morning at Sapphire Beach.
Have a safe flight home.

Restaurants:

For your romantic 30th – the Agave at the Point Pleasant Resort – Incredible View – Good Food – Moderately Expensive – Reservations Required

Red Hook:
Molly Malones – Irish fare – Cletis at the guitar – Very Good – Good Prices
East End Café (really a restaurant) – Italian Fare – Very Good – Moderate Prices
Whale of a Tail (above Molly’s) – Seafood – Good – Moderate Prices
Caribbean Saloon – Sports Bar/Restaurant – Ribs – Good – Moderate Prices
Duffy’s – Drinks/Food – Sunday Fish Special – Located in a parking lot. Really – Fun Place.

Elysian Resort – Roberts – Good Seafood & Steaks – Moderately Priced.

Latitude 18 – My new favorite place - Beach Bar with food – Tuesday is open mike night – good local entertainment – priced right. Hard to find – ask for directions.

Now the special suggestions…….

Bring a knapsack or collapsible cooler.

Buy the fold-up chairs (on-island) that have their own carry bag – the type people use at picnics and sports events – K-Mart (Tutu Mall) or Cost-U-Less (Home Depot Shopping Area) - $10. - $15. depending on type. Reason – where ever you go beach/lounge chairs will cost between $5. - $10. to rent. Then just leave them in your unit for the next guest.

Buy the 20 ounce (plastic) cokes – add rum – place in your freezer – enjoy on the beach the next day.

For lunches on the beach – stop in at Red Hook (Subway or the Burrito Deli).

Hope this helps,

F.I.
