Well I decided. I'm blowing the wad I've been saving for a rainy day...on an paradise vacation. Hopefully on the one I've always dreamed of. You know beautiful beaches, peaceful island atmosphere, lazy days in the sun. Sounds like St John's is the place. We will be coming June/July. I will bring my two chldren, ages 17 and 14, along for the memory making. My oldest will be going away to college next year so I'm gonna spend the last bit of precious quality time together. So help! I think I want to stay in a villa/cottage because I don't want the atmosphere of a resort. I've looked online at the one's for rent but there seems to be none on the beach(I know I would have to pay more for beach..but its part of the dream...walking out the door onto the beach). Does anyone know the Gibney Beach Cottage? Sounds like the perfect place of my dream. It is alot of money but is it worth it for the vacation of a lifetime? Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks so much for this message board. What a great place!

Hi Sidney:

You know..... there may be some private villas in St. John that are on the beach but I reallly don't know of any. Remember that 3/4 of the Island is a national park where the idea is unspoiled beauty. Some of the locals may be able to point you in the right direction. But just in case you can't find a place on the beach, don't let that stop you from planning the trip of your dreams.

While most villas are not right on the beach, many have a spectacular view of the ocean and neighboring islands. And by vehicle, you are never more than 15 minutes from the most beautiful beaches in the world. On most days, swimming in the ocean is almost like being in a swimming pool. You can be neck deep in the water and look down to see your toes (and fish swimming around you). Good luck..... and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi Sidney,

There are quite a few villas on or very close to the beach. However if you are staying in a villa you will most likely need a car. Therefore there are about 30 beaches 5 to 25 minutes away.I'd suggest calling one of the local rental agencies and tell them what you are looking for and they will steer you in the right direction. They all have 800 numbers, look for a 340 area code. They are on-island. There is something to be said for being a little higher up, views and breezes, and almost all villas have pools.

We were in st. john in January. We stayed at the Harmony Studios up the hill from Maho. On our last beautiful day we beach hopped and ended up at Gibney. There was one small family using the beach and one other couple. We ended up talking to the other couple who happened to be renting the garden cottage at Gibney. They graciously offered to show us the cottage. If I had the money I'd jump at the chance. Very nice, down stairs and upstairs decks, small but well appointed, and you roll out of bed to basically your own beach! Just make sure the teenagers know that there is no tv, well there was a tv, but the lady said that they didn't get anything. Beautiful tropical setting, surrounded by the Gibney's fruit trees!!! Enjoy!!

Hi Sidney,
We rented both Gibney cottages last year for our wedding, and they were wonderful, nothing like waking up and having the ocean right outside 🙂 Beautiful beach, use of the kayak's, floats, etc, great grounds - they have banana, coconut, mango and advocado trees (and alot more) and provided us with fresh picked fruit when it was available. Great to be able to sit on the beach (and skinny dip if you want) at night and to be all alone, and star gaze, or when we were there and went into the ocean at night witnessed great biophophersence (sp?) Nothing like being able to run back into the house whenever you want. Hope this helps, just post if you have any more questions, and happy planning.
