Which would be the island if you had to choose for a day trip (by ferry) from St. John? Would it be Tortola or Jost Van Dyke. This would be for sightseeing as we do not drink and don't want to snorkel. Also, should we rent a car and how would we go about doing that? Thanks so much!! We leave next month! Yea!

Out of your 2 choices, I'd say Tortola since you don't plan to drink or snorkel. My first recommendation tho is ALWAYS Virgin Gorda!

The only thing that was holding us back from Virgin Gorda was the time it takes to get there. My husband and the ocean do not get along very well and the ferry says it takes 2 hours from St. John.

Yes, Tortola if you really want a non-beach, non-bar type of day. There is enough to keep you going for a day. Will you rent a car or hire a taxi?

There is a fella there that goes by the moniker "Captain Friendly" and he does a full day tour of the Tortola that is fantastic. I think his real name is Evan Francis, Great trip, great guy. Highly recommend him.

What do you think I should do? Rent a car or hire a taxi. What are some must sees? Thanks!

buzzy: The roads on Tortola are really scary, but the taxi charges are bad too, so it would just depend on your comfort level. Things to see: Sage Mountain (if you like to hike a bit) and the Botanical Gardens in Road Town.

Tortola. Take the ferry from STJ to Tortola. Denzel rents cars on Tortola and you can reserve one while on STJ. They will pick you up at the ferry on Tortola, West End. Make a day of the north beaches and whatever suits you and take the late afternoon ferry back. I have some pictures from last year.
