Am sailing for a week around Tortola with friends. Would like to spend another week on one of the islands, but will be my myself. Ideally some type of "retreat" - I am single & 40 ish. Would like there to be programs/athletic activities- yoga etc. & great food. Any rec's would be great! Rosanna

You might look at Bitter End Yacht Club.

I'd second the recommendation. for Maho on STJ. There are activities and excursions available. The pavilion restaurant has one of the best locations on the island and pretty decent food . There's also a small store. There's usually entertainment or a NPS lecture in the pavilion in the evening. Maho is within easy walk of a few good snorkeling beaches. There's also a shuttle (for a fee) that runs into Cruz Bay and could drop you at any of the north shore beaches. Maho is one place on STJ that you can manage fairly well without a vehicle (although it's a good idea to rent one for at least a day or two to get to other parts of the island). At certain times of year Maho offers a discount to solo travellers.

There are different housing options at Maho--the eco-tents or Harmony Studios. The people staying at Maho are usually pretty friendly.
