On my last visit to St. Thomas. We decided to stay near town on this trip since we were there on business. So we stayed at Bluebeards Castle, which brought back such fond memories for me since I lived at and eventually worked at Bluebeards back in the late 60's and early 70's.

When we checked in we were quoted our $139.00 a night, which was what I was quoted earlier. But then they broughtvup this new environental tax of an additional $25.00 per day. They said the law was just passed a few months ago, so it has not been posted on their site. I asked my nephew about this and he was familar with the new law.

Anyone else get this little surprise when checking in or what ever. It was no big deal to me, but a heads up before we arrived would have been nice.

Mike

I guess im the only one who found an issue with this. But upon researching, I found that this particular law was inacted around May of 2017 and pertains to timeshare rentals, or timeshares in general.

There is a lawsuit filed by the timeshare coop, to fight this new law. Good luck with that, but I can see where the V.I. is taxing its way bankrupcy. This on top of paying $1200.00 for two airline tickets (cheap seats) in July, which is around $500 higher than most any other time is rediculous.

This just proves that democrat run governments only answer is to raise taxes and spendvtheirvway out of debt. They will be bankrupt soon unless they start electing republicans to help straighten out this mess.

I found out that this new law is part of the new Sin tax and the Gov 5 year plan. It also effects even the owners of the timeshares, so the owners also have to pay the $25.00 per day for each day they stay.

Kenneth E. Mapp (born November 2, 1955) is an American politician who is the 29th Governor of the United States Virgin Islands. He is a registered Republican,[1] but ran as an independent.

Well, they need a change. What you have there now is democrats or wolves in sheeps clothing. There may have been, but I don't recall a republican in office in the VI. If so then they need a few state side repubs brought in to straighten out their mess.

Yeah, right. Trump can't even run the White House, and Republican congress can't pass a major bill (and neither has Trump signed one) yet.

The bottom line is that for the most part, honest people don't want to get involved in politics. I think this attitude really comes from the 1980s, with its individualisms of more money and power, and less emphasis on helping others.

//considered myself Republican up until Bush Jr. almost ruined the World's economy, then voted for the first time in my life for Obama

I know what you mean John, He about did it for me as well. But I still couldn't bring myself to vote for Obama, way to much sharing the wealth there for me. Had Joe Biden ran, I would have voted for him in a heart beat, but couldn't pull the trigger for a would be queen to be coronated like the lefties and media was chomping at the bit hoping to keep their socialism experiment with the USA going.
