My tenant at Pineapple Village said that we have some flooding and beach erosion but not any wind damage. They have a curfew until 11:00. I'll pass on what I hear after she can tour the island and see what damage is out there.

I am stuck in SJU and can't get back until tomorrow. I spoke to my caretaker and he said everything was OK on Pelican Beach. He also when down to red hook and there were no damages to the boats. There was a fair amount of rain b ut not real bad. Some flooding. There are some trees with branches broken off but given all things are pretty good.

It looks like a beautiful day in the islands on the Chocolate Hole webcam. The boats and houses all look fine.

The curfew is being lifted on St. John and St. Thomas at 11am this morning. The closest the center of the hurricane got to St. John was about 50 miles so we were just on the fringe of Hurricane force winds but certainly tropical storm winds. Mostly fallen trees due to soggy ground but no significant damage. Power is still up on the majority of St. John and St. Thomas. Once the curfew lifts we will head out to our boat in Hurricane Hole and see how she managed.

This is an email I just received from the people we stayed with last year (Hull Bay Cottages, North End of STT).

Great news!! (tu)

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers Jeniffer. We came out of this just fine. The storm passed south of us and had a bigger impact on St. Croix from all I can gather.

Right now it is very sunny and beautiful, we’re going to just rest a little before putting things back together.

Thanks again for your thoughtfulness. Have a great stay on St. Croix , now only 21 days.

Warm tropical regards,

George

This morning is clear and sunny; no rain. The sea is visibly murky but that is normal after storms with run off and waves. No electric in some areas of St. Thomas. Telephone, cell service, Internet are working although that may not be the case for everyone. Comparable to a big rain storm. Things look OK for St. Thomas.

It sounds a bit like when Ike hit here in TX. Galvestan on up into Houston and east of them got it bad. Those of us on the west side of the storm fared okay. Fortunately Omar passed south and east of STT and STJ -- so, could've been worst. We were praying for you all and also for those who will be looking at some recovery and relief needs.

There was a storm? You'd never know it by looking out my windows in Frenchman's Bay...and I slept thru everything that did happen....I heard nothing...my cistern is full, though, so there's that...just another day in Paradise!

On St. Thomas...

It was still raining early this morning but cleared up, and then again a bit more rain.

Raining over Charlotte Amalie Harbor

Charlotte Amalie with Break in Rainfall

On driving around the island main roads were just fine; no build up of rocks, not even lots of leaves. Several public works trucks out and about surveying.

Only saw one fallen electric/telephone pole in the Bolongo Bay/Watergate Area. The road was closed and it was being worked on.

Workers on Fallen Lines

Guts were doing their job, weren't overflowing any that was noticed. The gut in Bovoni apparently was quite full and there was some flooding on the roads there but it appeared to be draining well.

Bovoni Gut - Water Under the Bridge to Nowhere

Some roads had pools of water.

Wet Roads

The ocean/beaches in some areas seemed more murky than others, mostly due to run off.

bnsilly asked about the water - Usually takes a few days for it to settle down. The Department of Planning and Natural Resources monitors water quality at beaches all year. Sometimes with increased run off they will report that the water quality is not good for swimming and then report when it is. When they conduct their post-Omar beach water testing it will be on their websites' notice page at: http://www.dpnr.gov.vi/notices.htm.

Mandahl Bay, looking like it always does.

Trees have their leaves and the forest looks lush as usual.

View from Skyline Drive.

Some folks were taking down their shutters on businesses and homes. Havensight shops were boarded up. Red Hook shops and restaurants boarded up or closed. A couple places had signs up that they may open later today or tomorrow morning.

We were very lucky and are thankful.
