hi all, i heard someone say they want i.d. to get on the ferry for st john, if this is true could a person just make a copy of their passport and carry that instead of carrying the passport around? is a persons drivers license good enough from the states? thanks all for the replys. scooby

No id needed when I was there in July. Just drive on and pay.

There was a time, a month or so ago, that US Homeland Security required an ID. Not anymore, unless the security level is raised by them again.

Honestly, you should be prepared to show it if asked; I heard our local head of Homeland Security say that last month.

Better safe than sorry! A copy of a passport will not do; you will need the original. But a driver license or other picture ID should be fine...
