HI:
I am visiting St John on Sept 24th for one week. Should I be concerned about hurricanes hitting the island? Will there be enough time and advance notice to evacuate if needed? I'm getting a little nervous about the trip. Should I cancel now...two days before??? Help please.

Nah, come on down. There is nothing out there that can hit us in 2 days. You'll be asked to leave if something does pop up out of nowhere. But right now, it looks great for the next nine days.

They all seem to be hitting us in the Gulf Coast region. I don't think they like the islands right now.

Tell you what...send me your tickets, I'll go down and check it out. I'll send you a weather report every day. Promise.

Seriously though, they don't hit the islands nearly as often as you might think. If there's nothing brewin' now, you'll probably be okay. Just check the weather reports each day to see if anything pops up. Then go get another Bushwacker and relax.

While you do not necessarily want to be around when one hits you definitely do not want to be planning your life around 'what if'. Unlike tornadoes, earthquakes, house fires (you get the idea), a hurricane always gives you several days notice and enough time to leave or prepare.
I know...we just went through Rita. 🙂

Well, Chris, I'm guessing that you made it thru the storm OK, huh? I guess it would be hard to post on this board if you didn't! Haha! How bad was your area hit? Any damage?

My area came out very well. We dodged a big bullet. Unfortunately, that meant Port Arthur and east got wacked. We will concentrate on them for now.
