We are Super Excited to visit St Thomas. We have been there a few times before during early spring. We are planning our trip for the end of November, and we concerned with the fact that it’s at the highest point of the Hurricane season…
Is this a ok time to visit, and what is the expected weather for that time of year??
Help Please!!!!!

Technically, the season is over by then so you should have no worries. August and September are highest for hurricanes.
November has the highest average for rainfall.

are we going to have sunny days or that light rain through out the day??? I would love the truth from those who live there... is it worth the money at that time of year or should we wait a few weeks??

generally November is a good month. It is a little slow down here, the hurricanes have probably passed by in September and early October and the weather is very good. You can not predict the weather here as almost every day there is a 20% chance of showers.
And there might be a storm a night. Two years ago we got a storm from the Notheth east that lasted a day or so. It was pretty bad.

My advise is forget the weather. If it rains it rains.

This is probably the easiest way to assess your risk to the USVI
If you click on the picture it gets bigger

Also if you like tracking storms or history of storms or anything about storms in the Caribbean this is a great site to monitor

82 chance of showers? The mean is 20% chance of showers.

Many visitors enjoy "off/hurricane season" because it's a lot quieter. The chances of a hurricane are pretty minimal (we haven't experienced anything major since 1995) but it doesn't hurt to take out trip insurance just in case. Cheers!

We go in November every year. In 2003 the week after us had heavy rains. It will rain, but we love the quieter pace as things get ready for high season. We're back the first week of November this year.

A few dollars for travel insurance will cure all the worries of when you go
and like many said - those of us who go often love the quiet times

We've always stayed out of the Caribbean from August into November. There are plenty of other months to go when hurricanes aren't even a possibility. But last year we went to Virgin Gorda in mid-October---it's my wife's birthday and it was a "milestone" birthday. I figured that it was far enough past peak hurricane season to chance it. And we loved it!!! We were there in deep low season, very few tourists, good weather. Some places were closed, but plenty were open. As long as a hurricane isn't pounding the island I'm on or disrupting travel in that part of the Caribbean, hurricane season (low season) is a wonderful time to be there. I still don't think we'll be going in late August or September, but we do want to be there in low season again.

Hurricanes are always a possibility here. They are a greater possibility during hurricane season, June 1-December 1. That said, the odds of a hurricane hitting this particular rock at the particular time you've chosen to vacation here are slim. Not non-existent, but slim. If hurricanes are a tremendous concern, there are places one can vacation where hurricanes not an issue.

I may have overstated my point. I suppose a hurricane is always possible, but since there has only been one hurricane occurring in the USVI between December and July in the last 188 years, it is a fairly remote possibility and probably not not likely enough to get me thinking about trip insurance.

We go October/November every year and do not buy trip insurance. I figure a much higher probability would be a high-season hurricane that damages the villa we have reserved. I just choose to take our chances.

That being said, I'm booking a sailing charter/St. John/New Orleans Jazz Fest for April. The possibility loss is much higher, so I'm going to pickup insurance for that one.

Cheers, RickG
