They are lifting the curfew at 11am on St. John and St. Thomas. That is official from the Police Chief.

STT Resident: The radio said that the power plant went out on St Croix, so i think they are still without power. Only a few pockets out on St Thomas. Funny, on the east end we have power and internet but no cable and no cell phone. Glad I haven't gotten rid of my land line! Ours is fine for in and out.

Curfew is on until 11 am.

EE: Yes, heard about the cable and cell phone problems. I have satellite which is fine and my landline (I'm a dinosaur with no cellphone!) is good although when trying to make outgoing calls I'm getting a lot of "all circuits are busy" recordings. Friends on the North side have had no power since late last night. May miss an evening's business as although I'm ready, concerned that WAPA may start playing the "revolving outages" game while getting power back to those who've lost it. Ah well... As The Island Turns...

Well, the cisterns are full and everyone is safe.

We may all breathe again - I'm still picturing some big parties going on over the last 24 hours. :@)

Wow! We are truly exhausted! Closing down and shuttering 2 villas and then removing all personal belongs from the shack and shuttering and then removing satellite dishes.....I hit the bed and was OUT! Thank goodness we were spared! Can't say "All of that work for nothing" IF we hadn't have done it, you know we would have gotten nailed! So nice that no island had a direct hit.
At least we can clean everything up and put things back into place without a dead line! Whew!
Thank you all for your kind words and for thinkin' of us down here. We are blessed.
Sherri
Blu- The shack is sqeeky clean now! Removing everything gave me the opportunity to do a spring cleaning today! Good can come from almost disasters! 🙂 When are you coming down?
Connie- see you soon! If you decide to do that dive with Homer, I think you will like it. We will be right there in Hull Bay doing the dive.
Not certified yet...all my testing and reading is done, but the weather stopped me from doing more dives. SOON!

We have planned on going to St. Croix for our Honeymoon on 10/19/08. Does anyone know the conditions of the Eastern part of the island. We are staying in a house near the Casino Divi and we are wondering if they have restored power down there yet? We really do not want to delay our trip and want to visit the island.

Hello Charlie,

Have you contacted your villa company or if you booked directly with the home owner, have you contacted them?

Yesterday someone on the sister board to this one, the relocation board, mentioned that there was no electricity out east on St. Croix but crews have been working diligently on getting things up so this may have changed. Best bet is to contact your villa rep or home owner asap. All the best.

Power is still out on much of STX. The east end has lots of poles down. WAPA said on the radio yesterday that they hope to have 90 per cent of the power restored on STX by late Monday, but the east end may take 7 - 10 days. I'm afraid we're going to be a little uncomfortable for a while. Oh well, it could have been much worse.

What a relief.
STJ web cam shows sunny blue cloud free skies & WC calls out 30% chance of showers. The world is right again.
Now if only the economy...

Sorry to hear that you have to postpone your trip! I hope when you do get to come that you have a great time!!! STX definitely caught more than we did over on STJ. We still have some cell phones out, but all most all of our power was back within 12hrs. On Gifft Hill we were only out for a short while.
