Having just gone through Ike, I hope Omar passes quickly and quietly for all the VI. Rain is good but named rain not so...

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Currently downtown in STT securing stores and offices. Spent last night and this AM securing the homestead. Good news is that neighbors pitch in and help each other to the common goal.

Appears it will be a long night and just hope Omar doesn't stremgthen too much. Important that any loose and light stuff outside is brought in and secured. Hurricane shutters up and all the lanterns radios, food, water, essentailsare there and ready to roll

Also a good idea to put together a back pack to have all your essential items, important papers, ID etc. in case a quick exit is necessary.

The big wind and rain is on its way.

Our best wishes with you all in the VIs, too. We were there last week and the weather was beautiful except for one little shower on STJ. We just never know about the weather, do we? God bless.

I'm adding my good thoughts your way in the hope that Omar runs out of steam, is just a rain event (not heavy)! The above post about a backpack with your important papers in it is a good one, just in case. HOWEVER... I'm sending my good vibes your way! :@) Hope it's soon back to the sunny days.

Getting lots of rain, hoping that WAPA will stay online until they HAVE to go off rather than any fluctuation due to yet another mechanical problem. Everybody's pretty much hunkered down after all the early morning hammerings of the neighborhood folks getting their shutters screwed in. There's a 6PM curfew so it should be a very quiet night. Hoping I'm well asleep before anything major happens and that I won't be awakened by a major crash indicating that SOMETHING has fallen on my car. Thanks for all the good wishes and I'm sure this will all blow out in short shrift. Having been through both hurricanes Hugo and Marilyn I'm not too worried about Omar but he certainly had some bloody nerve in dousing us with rain on the way through and then turning around and heading straight back at us.

Made a big batch of 10 bean soup (good comfort food) this morning. Cheers!

I'm stuck in San Juan as I could not get back in time to beat the hurricane. So I am looking out to the east where all I see is RAIN. Hopefully the storm will go to the east of STT perhaps over Tortolla. The hurricane winds are only 15 miles wide from the center. . But there is a LOT of rain.

So for those who on STT hunker down. Hopefully I'll be there on Thursday or Friday!!!

Good luck!!!

I wish I was there.

My thoughts are with all of you. STT Resident, good choice of soup, no refridgeration needed. If there is any major damage to the north side of STT, we will try and catch a flight this weekend to clean up our place and help our friends and neighbors out as well. Please keep us posted. I know this sounds crazy, but I wish that I was there with all of you guys.

I'm surprised Duffy's is open 'til 4! Most places closed earlier, and everyone has to be home by 6pm (curfew.)

I think I have one of the largest cistern of a private family home. It is about 50 feet by 35 feet by 8 and 1/2 feet. THAT IS ONLY ONE. I have another about half as big. When they built the house about 50 years ago they must of had so much space that just said make it a cistern. It has been overflowing for the past several weeks. So it just will run off. BUT 40 INCHES!!!!!

I just checked the weather map and it LOOKS like it will go between Virgin Gorda and Tortolla. But is is hard to tell. The slower it moves the further east it will go. BUT it also will get stronger. They think that it will be around 100 mph around 7:00 am when it hits the islands of Tortolla and Virgin Gorda. But St. Croix should get it first. So if you can keep in touch with anyone there.

Otherwise hang in there. An old saying is still true. "This too shall pass" I just wish it would pass in another place!!!

:S

STT Resident and Ron especially:
Hope you keep safe and Omar passes quickly and doesn't do any damage to you or your places. My thoughts and prayers go out to all in the path of Omar.
STT resident-I like your choice of soup.
Keep well everyone!
