Hubby & I are coming end of November with our snorkel equipment we purchased in the Keys. I have snorkeled only one time in my life....& that was after a couple ~cocktails~! I had a very hard time...I was very, very scared! It just seemed so un-natural to breathe while my head was underwater!
The question I have is....am I gonna be safe??
Exactly how safe is it for us to snorkel....when we have absolutely NO idea of anything we are doing!
We don't know any of the possible dangerous things we should be looking for.....just the pretty things....& we don't even know that they are!
Salt Pond is nice but the walk back to the car is uphill and deceptive if carrying anything. I like Lameshurs and suggest a 4WD for the trip. Haulover Bay on the East side is nice but can be subject to rougher conditions if the wind is up. Really nice to get there early for sunrise. You go to Haulover try Vie's for lunch if she is open. Recent posts suggest that may be hit & miss so bring some snacks and water to hold you over. I like Skinny Legs and Shp Wreck landing in Coral Bay.
Here's a few of my tips: if you're wearing flippers, put them on the beach just a few feet away from the water and walk into the water backwards. Nothing funnier than watching someone trying to walk from their towel to the water taking giant stork steps to avoid tripping on their fins. I've also brought along some dog biscuits/kibble in a sealed sandwich bag with a small hole. It allows tiny disintegrating bits of food to float down which attracts fish but careful if you observe barracuda around...don't wear your jewelry in the water - I've heard many a tale of barracuda who see the glint of jewelry on wrists and fingers and take a serious nibble on your flesh. If you start getting tired or panicky, just remember to flip onto your back and float awhile until you're rested. Since you should never snorkel alone, one good friend and her husband bring along a short length of rope. Each holds onto an end and each time they see something interesting or need their attention, they just tug on the rope.
LLBL,
I went to by OB/Gyn Dr this morning. She said that urinating in the ocean should not cause bladder infections. She said that it is probably because you have more sex when on a vacation like that (honeymoon cystitis). She said to take cranberry tablets before going on a vacation. I didn't tell her about our drink recipes. Ha Ha !
SO....I think I will pee if I have to because I like to visit a lot of those beaches without a facility. 🙂
Terri - Well, maybe my doctor was trying NOT to embarass me completely since copious quantities of SEX is infinitely worse cause of a UTI than PEEING in ocean 🙂
I only know what she told me. Some other nurses have concurred on this post. Regardless, I won't do it again at even the mere chance of it!
...cause I'm sure not going to abstain from "honeymoon" sex while on vacation 😉
This is getting to be the funniest thread I've ever been part of!!!
Now we are on how often you have sex while on vacation!!!
Here we go, "The USVI Dr. Ruth Show" 🙂 Can't wait to read what's next 🙂
Hey everybody, just had to jump in and let you know how much I've enjoyed this thread! Man, have I learned a lot. I'll be back in STJ in April and was really interested in all the talk about snorkeling, especially for beginners. Have gotten a lot of useful information and cannot wait to get back! I was thinking about renting equipment, but since I come every year, have decided that maybe my sons now have the answer as to what to give their Mom for Christmas - fit her with mask and vest!
Well it seems that some people on the "last minute tips before we leave " thread are trying to help us out with some drugs that may help our sex life. 🙂
Just couldn't let this one die......where should we take it next?????
Terri, I think thats a great idea for the next direction of this thread....."Drugs that help our Sex lives"....
Page six coming up!!!! (tu)
I actually found this book on Amazon.com:
Scuba Diving & Snorkeling for Dummies (Paperback)
by John Newman, Michael Newman (Foreword) "Snorkeling and scuba diving are pretty easy - what could be hard about floating around?..."
Has anyone read it?
Now that we know how to snorkel....even for the dummies.... who does the best dailsails with the best snorkeling for dummies?
Ok....I just can't let this thread die!!!!
