Hi, from reading some of these current posts I noticed you were gettin some rain. I was just wondering how those tent cabins hold up in a good blow and wondering if I should maybe upgrade to a Harmony cottage if I can. I would hate to have my kids frightened if we found ourselves in a major battle with the elements. Other than that I cant wait to be there, 3 weeks and counting

We finally just got some rain in the islands after a rather long drought. Rain dem now pretty much gone but all might change, maybe more rain and maybe less rain but nothing to spoil a holiday.

Maho should be able to give you info on how their place withstands tropical waves or hurricanes but STJ historically has never been hit as hard as either STX or STT in even the two major hurricanes we've experienced in the last many years, Hugo in 1989 and Marilyn in 1995.

Just bring the bug repellant with you and you'll find innumerable posts on that subject if you do a word search on this forum.

Hope this helps!

We've been at Maho with our kids in the past and while the tents blow around a tiny bit, its nothing to write home about. The edges will wick in water into the tent if you have stuff leaning on them. If you have never camped before then all bets are off-our kids had camped with us many times and were used to the sounds of a storm without solid walls around them- but they aren't dangerous. Maho has gotten a little more run down and the doors and screens are much looser than they used to be so bugs will be your real issue, not the storms (which usually come and go very quickly).
Bring a ton of bug repellent, keep the sand out of the tent, and BTW, don't pack any food that doesn't love the heat- we brought marshmellow fluff once for sandwiches- HUGE mistake!
If you end up staying at Harmony, I'd love to read your trip report about it as we're in the process this week of booking a studio there for November.
