I was wondering if maybe STT RES or someone else on STT could help me with this one.

My Aunt is getting me somewhat confused, and doubting myself, and now I'm starting to hallucinate about it - ha.
So, I told her I would ask you how Magens is pronounced down there.

Does it sound like May-gans or May-gins??

We are going round and round on this silly thing. Although, I would never pull her hair over it.

Sending giggles.

More maygens, sort of going from the g to the n with not much of an e inbetween! How's that to confuse you even more!

"How do you say it?"

Well, take the "n" sound off of "knit" and there you go! 😉

Dream: Old joke.

The longest word in the English language is 'antidisestablishmentarianism': Spell it.

(I-T)

Hey, 10 year olds love it. Of course they love "Knock knock" jokes too.

I beg to differ,

It's Supercalifragilistikexpealadochus.
I have to admit, I don't know what the heck it means.

The longest word in the Oxford Concise English Dictionary is "floccinoccinihilipilification" which is a combination of four latin words and essentially means, "the state of being of little worth" - very apt! Cheers!

So is the Kenny Chesney thread floccinoccinihilipilificaTION or floccinoccinihilipilificatED? We have the grammar and posting police, I want to make sure I get it right...

BeckyR: I suppose in the context you're asking about, the "state" of the thread would be "TION" and its perpetuation would be "ED." Ho ho ho.

EE--

I appreciated the humor. I was able to get the joke even without the visual clue.

So how about pronouncing 'Charlotte Amalie'? I always said uh-my-yuh, but I am sure I was wrong. Of course, most of the time I just said town. 😉

I still love that Bluebeard's Beach Club is on Limetree Beach instead of Bluebeard's Beach. I guess it separates the islanders from the newbies or travelers.

I also called Megan's just like the name Megan.

Teresa: Both Charlotte Amalee and Charlotte Amahleea are acceptable but locals rarely refer to it by name, just call it "town."

If Magens were spelled MEgan (like the girl's name and sometimes spelled Meghan) it would strictly speaking but depending from which area of Europe you're connected with, be pronounced MEEgan. I have a Welsh friend who gets very irritated when people pronounce her name MAYgen rather than MEEgan. But since Magens isn't spelled that way it doesn't really matter! Cheers, dear and thanks for letting me contribute more confusion to this thread!
