hey everyone
I've been reading a lot of horrowshow accounts of folks getting stuck in San Juan for their American connections. I know it's usually bad, but is it getting worse?!? I'm contemplating flying STX to PHL for Christmas but now I'm getting leery...I haven't been thru San Juan in about a year now and am wondering if I 'd be better off going another way...
So the question is: is it getting worse in San Juan or is it about the same as always?
islandjoan...we had no problem with our connection from STT to Puerto Rico, but getting out of Puerto Rico was horrible. They wouldn't even consider rerouting us. I asked if we could get to either Miami or Fort Lauderdale. I thought it would be easier to get out of there and back to Phila. All I know is, no matter what, I'm getting direct flights from now on.
I wish you luck
STX To PR To NY Six Times this year on Tue,Wed,and Thur never on a weekend. On time, no weather problems or mechanical problems.
When I used the discount Air companies years ago, I would have problems at times. I Started using aa.com a few dollars more at times, but no problems at all.
Hey Lizard...our delay of 4 1/2 hours was with AA...it was really bad.
connie,
Just curious, what day of the week was it, what was the time, and did you book directly with aa.com?
Lizard, it was last Wed, Nov 14th. We were out of STT by 4:17 and our flight out of Puerto Rico was scheduled for 6:30, then it went to 7:10, then 9:10, then 9:40, back to 9:30 and we finally lifted off at 10:30. We booked directly through AA.
By the way, we were given 3000 and a set of free headphones each for our troubles.
We've never had problems flying through SJU. We've changed there numerous times over the years on our way to and from STT (of course I'd prefer a direct flight if it was available). Last month we went through SJU on our way to Tortola, again without a hitch. The return from Tortola was a bit more complicated because we needed to clear US customs in San Juan, but wasn't really a problem.
For our last three trips (St. Thomas/St.John, Tortola, St. Kitts) we have had no problems going through San Juan. However, we did not travel on the weekend and for 2 of the 3 trips, we just brought carry-ons. We have to go through San Juan or Miami on AA to get to the islands - no directs from our airport.
I have not had any real problems with SJU. I have had delays but they were caused by my originating flights being late. Once that happened things got a little crappy. I have learned that I should not attempt to make my connecting flights out of SJU too tight time wise. It's tempting to try to get to your final destination earlier in the day while at the same time saving a few bucks,but.............. You would think that if you schedule a very early flight out of the states that things should go fairly well,but............ I do think that American Eagle is probably a better option than some of the smaller airlines because they run so many flights that your chances of getting to your final destination w/o too much lost time is good.
hey everyone
thanks for the replies! Yeah guess it looks like it's about the same as it always was @AA in SJU....some days good, some days bad...and no way to know what to expect 'till you get there. The joys of traveling, I guess! Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
If you can avoid SJU do so. I have always had problems with departing out of there. I have promise myself that I would never again go through there.
SJU I've never had a problem with now philly is a different story
islandjoan: Good attitude! Flights can get messed up for so many different reasons whether they be out of SJ or anywhere else in the world and on American or any other airline worldwide. Tens of thousands of airline travellers on any given day can experience no problems at all but a small percentage of course will. Of course delays and cancellations can be incredibly frustrating but, well, that's life and bad things happen. Cheers!
