Folks,
I was just looking at HGTV and they were showing flashes of scenes from this coming week's " House Hunters International - Caribbean" and they showed at least one shot of STJ and I think I saw a flash of STT. Apparently, they ran a contest where people could vote on their #1 vacation home destination and they are going to show the top picks all week during the week of June 8 - each night at 10pm Eastern. I definitely saw Trunk Bay! I am going to program by DVR right now!!!

Check it out.

Did anyone vote in this contest? I watch HGTV like crazy and don't know how I missed the contest.

Last December, Ted and Sharon Prosser went house hunting in the Virgin islands. They brought along a film crew from HGTV. Next week, we can all see the results of the effort when House Hunters International debuts the St. John episode at 9:30 p.m. June 14.

The Prossers are followed around the island as they view three villas in Coral Bay and decide which one is best for a villa rental. They chose a three-bedroom property named “Into the Mystic” (from a Van Morrison son).

If you miss the broadcast, HGTV has an extensive video site where full shows are available.

Check your local programming, apparently it's on June 8th with some cable networks and June 14th with others. One of those east coast/west coast kinds of things!

Edited...

this is copied from another usvi board...written by a lady who lives on St John and is active in the Real estate biz there. She says there are apparently two shows from the USVI!

One is called "Spectacular In St John" featuring a Pennsylvania couple looking for a vacation property, being shown on June 8th and it is, on our DVR, episode #117 origional air date 6-8-09.

The second titled "Vacation Villa in the Virgin Islands" featuring a couple who honeymooned on St John looking for a second home being shown on June 14th, episode #122 origional air date 6-14-09.

Last night's episode, on my cable network, was the Bahamas. I'll just keep watching until STJ comes on.

Blu:

Would you pay $1M plus for what they showed last night?

I was thinking the same thing. I guess they're paying for location.

There is still one more St John episode that was filmed here on STJ featuring Coral Bay homes. It was scheduled to air June 14th but I believe HGTV did not want almost back to back episodes featuring STJ so I believe they have rescheduled that episode - but do check your listings as it keeps changing air dates.

FI, Are you asking if I would pay $1M for the Bahama home? Not that one!

I did find the STJ homes to be FABULOUS!!!! But, wow, they said they pay $2k - $4k mo for electricity!??!!! I would be a solar powered junkie!!

I am amazed that villa owners make any money on rentals....between the mortgage and the electricity, I cannot figure how they make a profit! Ok, I know that they rarely make a profit and many are just supplementing their monthly expenses with the rental income.

Blu:

I guess if you have $3M to spend on an "empty" villa you can afford the $25K - $50K electric bill each year.

As for making a profit on villa rentals...........that remains to be seen........even condos don't (usually) make a "profit".

WAPA rates are supposed to rise again....a combination of oil prices increasing and less consumption.
