Hello-
I am looking to get married in St. John next June. For myself, I am looking to find a hotel right on the beach that is not a chain-type place, however, is of 4-5 star quality with activities and amendities. For my friends, I am looking for a hotel in the same vicinity that is a bit cheaper.

I am also looking for a reputable wedding planner -- there seems to be so many available I am having trouble discerning who is who.

Any ideas for me? Your help is appreciated.

Rebecca

St. John has only two hotels, both on beaches. One is the Westin, the other Caneel Bay. Both places have their own wedding planners.
There are plenty of places close by to have your friends stay.
Good luck!

Rebecca -

We've stayed at the Westin...found it to be very nice. However, it is part of a chain...but not "chain-like" at all. We've not stayed at Caneel Bay, but it very nice and has a wonderful reputation. If you're looking for the resort experience either will serve you well.

For an alternative, look into renting a villa. We did this our last visit. What a great way to stay on St. John. Would seem to me to be the perfect way to honeymoon. Very private, everything at your own leisure, no maids etc pounding on the doors...many have private pools and/or hot tubs, etc. We used lisa at vacation villas at http://vacationvistas.com/ It was a good experience for us. Also pretty affordable in the summer months.

Good luck

Bob

My son and his new bride just arrived, July 8th 2002, at Caneel Bay for their honeymoon. This is the third generation of our family to honeymoon there. I can not think of a better place for a honeymoon anywhere. Most of the island is undeveloped since it is a national park, the resort was originally the vacation home of the Rockefellers, cottages have been added over the years, but it is still extremely private and often you and your mate will be the only one on the beach. The beaches are magnificent, seven of which are on Caneel property, and several are considered the finest in the world. When Forbes, Travel & Leisure, Wall Street Journal, etc., rate vacation getaways, Caneel and its sister resort, Little Dix Bay, are always listed at the top. Summer rates are great. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
