Starting to book my trip to STT for Jan. of 2011 and was shocked. The same place we have stayed since 1986 had increased to $194 per night when we had never paid over $127. In checking other hotels I found that the average price was 27% higher than last year. Apparently the economic slow down hasn't effected the tourism industry in the VI's? I looked to see what the chartering industry looked like for bookings this year, and they seem to be doing quite well in Jan and Feb. It appears that for the most part the travel deals are being limited to the cruise ships and mexican vacations. I had heard the restaurant business on the islands were down, but was surprised to see the other entities so far up. Are my findings correct or are the prices not reflecting what is really going on, since we are looking at a year in advance?
I think that price is an anomaly. My hotel on STX has some special deals, certainly nothing higher than last year.
