Hello,

I need to stay one night in St. Thomas before catching a plane back to the states after a week on St. John. I've decided (after reading lots of info and reviews) to stay at Hotel 1829. My finance, who by that time will be my husband -wow! and I are interested in history and I love historical buildings.

Anyway, question is this...I can book either a "superior room on the top floor (walk-up) w/king-bed and great view" or a "deluxe room w/queen-bed, veranda and harbor view on the first floor". If anyone has visited there...which would you recommend and why? I know about the stairs and that really isn't a problem for us.

Thanks!
Megan

Many in my sons wedding party stayed there in 2005 and I had breakfast there. Very Charming!! Either room will be great. Anna

take the top floor for the best view ,the trees in the park across the street may obscure the view from the first floor

That's great, thanks for the information! I'm going to go ahead and book the top floor.

I have stayed in the top floor and the big room that is the most expensive. That room at the top of the stairs gives you views from Crown Bay to the harbor in front of you. The room has a/c and has a nice bed. Includes a refrigerator as well. I love this hotel

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the hotel is now a museum. The rooms they rent are up at blackbeards, not at 1829. Before you get your hopes up, give them a call. A few other hotels on that same block are Green Iguana, Galleon House and Bunker Hill. They are all right downtown, next to the 99 steps. Great location and prices. If you stay at any of them, you can hit the hotel in a tour and end up at their wonderful old bar, which they've kept open. Good luck!

1littleIndian: This thread is over a year old but are you sure that Hotel 1829 is no longer offering accommodations? I only ask because their website is still listing rates through May 09, they revamped the rooms in 08 and the latest visitor review is from November 08. It was disappointing enough when the restaurant there closed many years ago - it was such a wonderfully classic dining experience - so do please advise. Thanks!

Checked with Hotel 1829 directly and they do still have 8 rooms there. Cheers!
