I am a male RN working in Michigan. I was wondering if there is a nurse who is currently working at the hospital on ST John? I've been offered a travel nurse position and would very much like to talk with someone who is working in a similiar position. It would even be more of a help if they were a travel nurse. My travel agency pays for the rent and utilities at Saphire Village. Also it would be helpful if anyone knew anything about Saphire Village. Is it a quality place or a dive? I would also like to know about he hospital, is there a cardiology department, cardiologists, etc.? If you are a travel nurse or a staff nurse at the hospital, your advice would be appreciated. I probably have a hundred questions although, they escape me right now.

St. John doesn't have a hospital, just a Health Clinic. The only hospitals in the USVI are on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Since you mention lodgings at Sapphire I'm guessing you're considering St. Thomas. Sapphire isn't the Ritz but it's fine. For more information on cardiology you might contact Dr. Roy Flood: http://www.viheart.com/aboutdoc.asp

Hi, I met a couple of travel nurses last time I was on St Thomas. Both lived at Sapphire. One said she liked it though the local RNs didn't like gals from the states or choose to be very helpful when she first got there. She did however say, she is fine now it just took them 3 weeks or so to even say hi and now they are fine. The other just transfered from Hawai and she didn't like it on STT and would not renew her contract. Sapphire is a good place to live I think I have met some of the people that own and live there and they are all very nice and very helpful. The beach is great, it is very close to Red Hook and the STJ ferry for a nice day off. I would give it a try it's only for 13 weeks right? So...what do you have to loose? You might just LOVE it! If your worried go down for a 4 day weekend and check it out. Best of luck, Leticia

Hey Popeye
Go to the upper right side of this page and CLICK on "Relocation Message Board". That will take you to the place to get all of your questions answered.

Two things, Before you ask a question go to the SEARCH function. type in "traveling nurse" and for the time search at least a year. You will have more answers than questions.

second thing...Don't admit that you didn't know that there was NO hospital on St John. There is a clinic, but folks will think you didn't ask the right questions.

Hi popeye, there are several forums for you to check out one is on delphi search travel nurses the other is hypodermic highway (sp) there should be several posts on working on st thomas . if you pm me I will put you in contact with someone who traveled here and worked several contracts here. sapphire village is the home to many travel nurses so that would be a help for you . it is not a dive and depending who they are renting from you should be fine. just watch your water and electric uses cause several travel companys will only pay a certain amount for utilites. other than that as was said before it is a great location for great beach, a bar and restuarant on grounds and very close to red hook ! I have gotten to know many travel nurses through the years who have worked here. its not the easiest location but if you have the right attitude it can be a great working vacation .
