My brother just called me, and he's thinking that he wants to surprise his soon-to-be wife with a trip to St. John for their honeymoon. Because I'm planning a trip for myself this fall, he's asked me to help him find a place to stay.

What I need is a house, villa, condo for 2 people the week of Aug. 5-12. I think he's looking to spend under $2000. He did mention being close to the water but said a great view and a not-too-long walk to the beach would be OK.

Anyhone have any suggestions? Obviously my huge house for me and my girlfriends isn't going to work out for them.

Several 1 bdrm villas (cottages) come to mind in that price range:

Sea Spirit, a small one bdrm with queen bed; another bed in the loft, great view of the water, but set up on the rocks and no beach to walk to, bout 1/2 mile at the end of a dirt road, very private with no other houses in sight, close to Salt Pond Bay.

Lille Paradis, same general area as Sea Spirit, but newer, fully air conditioned, has a pool, and can walk (about 5 min) to a rocky beach that has good snorkeling. View is not as good as Sea Spirit but Lille is newer. We stayed at Sea Spirit in Oct 06 and are staying at Lille for two weeks in Nov.
Siempre Azule is pretty much on the beach, haven't stayed there but was seriously considering it for Nov but was already rented.

Both Lille Paradis and Siempre Azule are carried by Windspree (www.windspree.com). The website provides pictures and description, location, as well as prices. Windspree also has other one bdrm villas available in that price range. Sea Spirit can be seen at www.stjohnusvi.com under 'cottages'. BTW, all of these are located on the Coral Bay end of the island which is much more laid back and less congested than Cruz Bay. In August, this pretty much means that you will be about the only ones on the beaches off Salt Pond Road.

Hope this helps some. I am sure you will get a lot more responses to your post.

Not a villa , but Estate Lindholm might work.
