Hello. I was looking up information about the Virgin Islands and happened to find this message board. I am recently engaged and trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon. We were looking at The Westin in St. John or the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort in St. Thomas. I was wondering if anyone had any comments about either one of these hotels or any hotels on the island. We are interested in some shopping but mainly snorkeling and sunbathing on the beach. I would also apprecaite any comments about St. Thomas or St. John either positive or negative that would help us make a decision. Neither of us have ever traveled to the Virgin Islands before so any information would help. Thanks so much!
St. John is the perfect honeymoon spot. We sent our daughter to STJ for her honeymoon and she's been going back every year since (until this year when she gave us our first grand child).
St. John is a unique island. For the price of a week at the Westin you could rent a small villa and have complete privacy and your own pool and maybe even a hot tub. Another possibility is Gibney Cottages which are right on a private beach and perfect for a honeymoon. Be sure to rent a Jeep and snorkel as many of the beaches as you can. Do some research and use this message board for any questions you have.
We all enjoy talking about what we love about STJ.
We honeymooned in St. John 11 years ago and have been going back every year or so since... The only negative that comes to mind is the addiction to the island from then on 😉
I agree with Diana as far as renting a villa goes - much more bang for your buck. If snorkeling and sunbathing are your main interests, you couldn't choose a better place.
I would choose St.John, but I would NOT choose the Westin. Why? Because to me, a honeymoon should be more of a romantic setting and not a corporate size/styled hotel.
So for those two reasons, I would highly recommend Secret Harbor on St.Thomas.
Another very positive reason for Secret Harbor over the Westin - you have great snorkelling right on the awesome beautiful beach. I snorkle there at least once a week. And Secret Harbor has great rooms, resturant, beach bar.......great hideaway location instead of a huge corproate sprawl of a hotel....more privacy!
