My fiance and I are getting married 10/8/05 and found Bolongo Bay for a honeymoon possibility. If anyone one could give me pros and cons on if this place is a good place to go along with going to St. Thomas. We don't know of anyone that has been down to the Virgin Islands so I'm trying to get an idea if it will be a nice place and time. Thank you much for your help.

Pat

Hi Pat:

I never stayed at Bolongo Bay so I really can't give you any advice on whether or not to stay there. I do hear the Iggy's Beach bar is fun.

I'm curious though..... what made you zero in on Bolongo Bay? What are your expectations when you visit STT? What kinds of things to you like to do? (snorkeling, swimming/beaches, sailing, restaurants, nightlife). Are you looking for an all-inclusive? Are you planning on going over to STJ during your stay?

Maybe Bolongo is the right place for you..... maybe its not..... all depends on how you answer the above questions. Sorry..... I asked many more questions than I answered. But if you answer these questions, I'm sure the good folks here will point you in the right direction.

🙂

p.s.

Keep in mind that Oct is still hurricane season. There is a possibility of bad weather but I wouldn't let that stop me. Just make sure you get travel insurance. I honeymooned on STT in Oct 94' and we had great weather.

Hi Pat:
Last year in September, my daughter had her wedding at Bolongo Bay. It was wonderful. The accomodations were great. I would recommend it.

It's also close to many places and things.

Have a wonderful stay in St. Thomas no matter where you stay.

Congratulations.

Pat,
If you're looking for luxury level accommodations for your honeymoon, you might want to look at the Ritz-Carlton for marble bathrooms and pampering. The Marriotts and Wyndham (all-inclusive) also offer typical resort type rooms and facilities. The Bolongo is much more low-key, laid back and definitely not upscale. It is, however, quite typically tropical. I am the type of person who would prefer a Bolongo type resort over a Ritz or Marriott. On the south shore of the island it is located centrally to both downtown Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook. There is an on-site restaurant, as well as Iggie's Beach Bar, a pool, and a beach with many water sports available.

It's good that you are doing research before your honeymoon. It's so sad when people's expectations are not met and their vacation is not as pleasant as it could have been.
