this message is posted for anyone who is in love with honeymoon beach [stj] as i am, yet havent seen the beach in the last few weeks...
remember the beautiful, shade-giving, lush green vegetation behind the beach? well caneel resort [according to my sources] decided that they wanted to do away with much of that pesky "nature" and cleaned up the look of that beach. now, from any point along the beach, you can see straight through to the road that services the national park house... evil!!
they "trimmed" all of the major seagrape plants so that nothing touches the sand anymore-- up to about 3-4 feet. any plant smaller than 6" around has been eliminated entirely. the only things that exist out there now are the major seagrapes, the palms, the big trees, and sand.
beyond being visually less appealing, this will be a huge problem if we get any large storms-- apparently caneel doesn't realize that it is the plants themselves that hold the beach where it is!
i implore every one of you to call, fax, email, and smoke signal to the national park, caneel, and the VI DPNR to make sure their destruction of this gorgeous beach stops NOW!!
